Feedback - How to get more buyers to leave feedback??

I guess this is something we all experience where only a small percentage of buyers actually take the time to leave feedback despite your best efforts to make their shopping experience a pleasant one.

Would like to know what others are doing to raise their feedback percentage and what is working vs what is not working.

I am considering calling past customers to follow-up in person which will hopefully result in them leaving feedback.

The FEEDBACK REMINDER email only works about 10% of the time.

I never mention feedback to the buyers, ever, and receive over 80% back. Don't see a problem.

If I was the buyer, anbd got a "feedback reminder" from a seller who hadn't left it already,...not a chance they'd be receiving a positive from me.

😮 You're actually considering phoning them to ask for feedback???? That's a bit much. I leave feedback when I ship items. For me it's part of my checks and balances system. I used to send out the odd personal, polite feedback request after a couple of months but I'd never in a million years consider calling a buyer about feedback. I haven't even done the emails in a couple of years. But calling someone?? yikes! And even when I have sent out the emails it was done once and then I figure oh well and move on.

The only times I've called a buyer is when there was a problem, misunderstanding or an issue that I felt would be better suited to verbal communication rather than an email. Hearing someone's tone of voice is much better than a sometimes misinterpreted email. I find people don't always have a good grasp of the english language and sometimes take things in ways other than which they were intended.

I think you'll find you won't like the response you get to a phone call inquiring about their purchase satisfaction along with a feedback reminder. But go ahead and try it and let us know how it goes.

Be careful what you ask for. If a seller EVER phoned me to ask for feedback, I would be very quick to leave at least a neutral or maybe even a negative.

Feedback is OPTIONAL. Yes, it serves a useful purpose to a certain extent but it certainly isn't mandatory. The only time feedback is important is perhaps when you are new to E-bay and are trying to build up your credibility or if you are a poor seller (or buyer) and others wish to leave negative for the benifit of future business partners.

There comes a point where the numbers don't mean much anymore.

Feedback is very dependant on the area you sell in. With certian types of merchandise we get 80% feedback and with others we get 5%. Overall we average about 20% feedback and yes its frustrating, but thats life. We used to send out reminders after 45 days and then again at 60 days and 90days. but gave that up a few years ago, as all we generally got were complaints!

I agree, I almost always get feedback with one type of item and with the other type, it's more hit and miss. Overall, I average around 65-70% giving feedback back to me.

Thanks for all your comments.

First of all RECPED, we do not call to beg for feedback as you put it - the purpose of us calling is to follow-up on their purchase.

Now we do not call all buyers, we focus on high ticket items like (Camcorders, Computer, Ipod's/MP3 Players, etc). We find alot of times, especially with MP3 players, the users do not follow proper installation procedures which causes the item not to functiona properly which leads the buyer with the impression that the item is defective.

95% of the people we call are shocked and amazed that we actually follow-up on a sale to inquire about their satisfaction - we get numerous emails and a few letters of appreciation too.

Another nice benefit we discovered is that most of the people we contact refer someone else to our eBay store because of the positive experience they have in dealing with us.

I can't think of one person who was upset or angry because we called them.

I get over 90% of feedbacks. I leave a note in the shipping box saying that when you leave me feedback you will get a surprise. and people leave me feedback. after they leave me feedback i send them nice ecard really funny one just to make them laugh. trust me it works

I'm happy when they complete the sale--I get the money, they get the item. If they never leave feedback I don't care at all. And what if they weren't completely happy with the item, but decided to say nothing...I don't need to stir things up! and I get enough feedback that I don't worry about it. I ask them to leave feedback when their item arrives as described (when I'm emailing to tell them I mailed it out and when to expect it) but that's it. I do get quite a bit left for me--about 80%.
