Get refund for import fees for item shipped from US to Canada

I bought laptop from US which will be shipped to Toronto, Canada. I was charged around 250 CAD as an import duty.

However, when I called the customs they said there is no import duty on notebooks shipped from US to Canada.

How can I get my money back?

While there is no import duty on US made notebooks -- there are GST/HST taxes.

If using the Global Shipping Program (GSP) you were not charged "import duty", rather "Import charges" (which include duties, taxes, and third-party brokerage).

Check out the fees section: http://pages.ebay.com/buy/globalshippingprogram/faq-buyer.html#faq=fees-5

If shipped via GSP, then you'll need to complain/talk to Pitney-Bowes who administer the program and ask why the charges were so high.

-..-

If direct via Canada Customs, then the COD form has the details on how to dispute the assessment.
