How can I commit to purchase but not make immediate payment?

When I used to purchase items on eBay via the Commit to Buy button I wasn't required to make immediate payment. Now I am. Does anyone know why this would be?

That is a setting the seller has selected.

As a buyer there is nothing you can do about it.

Attach a credit card to your Paypal account.

Always pay from the credit card, and not from a PP balance or a bank balance.

You will have the item before your credit card invoice arrives and you can pay at your leisure.

Bonus: with credit card payments you have a second level of Buyer Protection after the PP Buyer Protection program, in your card's 'chargeback' policy.
