How do I take an online auction to a live setting successfully?

The organization I work for will be holding an auction which we want to start online. The auction will then become live and will be a huge part of our yearly gala. How do I make the switch from online to live successfully using Ebay?

Simple answer: You can't

Complex answer:

You could treat the eBay auction as the reserve bid for the live auction.

If the live bids do not exceed the eBay bids then the eBay bidder wins.

But that does mean that you do have to cancel the eBay auction if the live auction has higher bidding.

Far more trouble than it's worth.

There are companies that handle live internet bidding.

The one we have used for about a decade only handles philatelic auctions however.
