How does CC charge back work?

This is actually not related to buying on eBay but I hope I can still ask it here for some feedbacks and ideas from the more experiences folks here Smiley Happy

I pre-ordered (and paid for) something last December and I'm supposed to get it this Summer. I have yet to received it. I contacted the seller last week, forwarded him my old Paypal receipt as proof of payment / order, and he told me he'd look into it... and then I haven't heard from him again. I realize it's already past the 180 days for Paypal dispute so it seems CC charge back is the only way for me to recover my money. I'm gonna give the seller till the end of July to resolve this so hopefully I won't have to resort to CC charge back... but thought I'd ask around anyway to help get it off my chest, and to get idea on what I can do in such situations. What's disappointing is that it's the third time I purchased from this company (no issues with previous purchases) and he failed to address the issue promptly this time around.

The reason why I didn't ask on the Paypal forum is because I saw someone asked a similar question last month and he/she received no response, so I'm hoping I'd have better luck here. Thank you for reading Smiley Wink

I've never had to do this myself but what I believe you do is call the 1-800 number on the back of your credit card and speak to someone there.

Forgot to mention this: when (if) you call have this info ready because you'll be asked the date, time, amount plus the name or I.D. of the seller. You can get that from your card statement or your paypal account.

Don't wait too much longer as credit cards also have a maximum length of time that they will do a chargeback.

OTL Smiley Surprised I just checked my credit card company's website and it says within 60 days of the statement...... and indeed it won't allow me to file an online dispute for that transaction anymore. Now Paypal's 180 days certainly looked extremely generous *face palm*

Fortunately it's not a large sum of money (~$50). Lesson learned to definitely keep these deadlines in mind for future reference Smiley Sad

Thanks for the heads up. I guess my only option left is to go onto their facebook page if I still don't get an e-mail response in a few days, as complaining on their facebook page would definitely be bad PR for them (they have a couple thousand followers) and they better respond to that asap.

Thank you to you both for prompt responses Smiley Happy

Pick up the phone and call. What do you have to lose?

The seller got back to me today saying he can't process my order so I got a full refund via Paypal. All is well Smiley Happy

(I don't get it though, on their website it said they still have stock, so why not just send me my purchase and keep my money? Anyhow, I kinda lost interest in the purchase anyway after this incident so I'm happy to have my money back.)

Oh what the heck, I checked my Paypal account, they sent me the refund but had me eat the Paypal fee on my end so technically speaking I didn't get a full refund... it's a refund less the Paypal fee.

I guess I won't be buying from this seller ever again. *shakes head*
