How often do you have a sale?

I've never had a real sale before, sometimes I'd put a few things on sale here and there but now I'm holding a 10% off sale and it's going very well.

I'm just wondering how often everyone else has sales? Is it worth it to drive traffic and boost sales (although the amounts being sold are lower)?

I never have "sales", I follow the WalMart mantra of best price every day B-)

Best way to drive traffic is to auction a few items starting at 99 cents. That also has the added benefit of telling you how much interest there is in your merchandise overall.

You need to have an eBay store to have a "sale" through Markdown Manager - with free email sent by eBay to all potential buyers on your mailing list. .

You don't need an eBay store or any special software to have a sale... that just makes it more convenient. stop thinking linear...

Hi Justine,

Of course my store is on holidays right now, however, my customers love sales! You know how scrappers are!

I had months where I would have different categories on sale for a week at a time and then other months where everything in my store was on sale!

It's important to know your margin of profit when putting items on sale.

I haven't run an auction...fixed or otherwise in more than a year because I had so much traffic to my eBay store on its own.

ampurtle....Yes! You do need to have an eBay store as Pierre mentioned to have a *SALE* It is only through using markdown manager that your items will show up in search when a buyer looks for SALE. Also...markdown manager is where the sale logo comes from.

Justine...you'll find what works best for you....low Walmart prices or sales that you select. Everyone's business is different. However, I do find that my buyers love a sale...but it most certainly does not prevent them from buying items when there is not a sale on!

Hope this info helps!

I wonder what Eatons did for all those years without eBay and Markdown Manager... no wonder they went out of business :-x

With all due respect..... people have to stop thinking eBay has the answers to everything and only eBay programs and solutions are most effective and available to you...

This is the net, your choices are extensive and limited only by your own imagination... stop thinking linear...

Case in point, I have nothing listed on eBay, yet my sales have not suffered because I don't put all my eggs in one basket. I have spent most of July out and about the countryside doing my thing and picked up 2 new customers each week... and they came to me because they were curious about what I was up to, I wasn't out looking for customers or sales, it just happens.

It's probably my lovable disarming nature :^O or it could be my lens... despite what your mothers told you, size does matter :^O

So, I'll say it one more time before I toddle off and hope it sinks in to a couple of you....

Stop thinking linear...

Hi ampurtle,

With all due respect....perhaps you should stop thinking that all of us have all of our eggs in one basket.

Perhaps many sellers are happy being on just eBay.

Perhaps offer your suggestions, but find a way of not putting sellers down each and every time you do.

I'm glad that your eggs are not all in one basket. I'm glad that you have no listings running and that you're sales are great. That's great for you.

Each and every one of the sellers on eBay has their own reasons for selling here.

There are many on eBay that have been around for years and years and years and have the wisdom to know what they are doing and share their expertise in a kind and generous way. Those sellers are the ones that many look up to because they know that they will not be demoralized for asking a question or for guidance or heaven forbid...selling on eBay!

With all due respect.....

Hi tea,

Your 99 cents starting price....that's on auctions? I think that Justine was asking about *sales* in stores using Markdown Manager.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for the replies

Yes I did mean a sale in the store... I do auctions at 99 cents and I love that it brings people over to see my store inventory. I haven't been selling for long so that's why I think for me auctions and fixed price listings are necessary...

I just wanted to see how often other Powerseller's are doing it to give me an idea of how often I should have one.

Hi Justine.

If I may suggest, add your name of twenty or thirty neswletters offered by your competitors. It will give you an idea of what they are doing, the frequency of their sales, the number of items offered on sale, the discount, etc... .
