I had a bid of 26.99 on an item and had the winning bid, then increased my max bid to 33.00.As the auction was ending,it shows an automatic bid for the other bidder for 27.99 then my max bid of 33.00,then a winning bid of 34.00 for the other bidder. There was a space of $5.01 between the automatic bid of 27.99 and my max bid of 33.00.How can the other bidder get an automatic bid of 27.99 between my winning bid and max bid then win by one dollar?.I would just like to understand this as it is not the first time.
Thank You.

Basically the other bidder had a higher bid than you. Not $33 but possibly $34 or $100.
That bid may have been placed only once, earlier than you or he may have had an automatic snipe set up with a sniping service.
Give the transaction number and we can see the bidding pattern.

Winner placed bid after both of yours. Ebay assigned 2 increments. One to get past your high bid of 26.99 and another past your 33. No other bids so won at your 33 + 1 . Winner's bid could have been 34.01 up.

I thought at that price the increments would be automatically be at one dollar a piece,up to my 33.00 then the other bidder would win.Not jump at! $5.01 in one shot.
Thank you

So you were expecting to see bids of
you 28.99
winner 29.99
you 30.99
winner 31.99
you 33.00
winner 34.00
There is no point in showing all that because the result remains the same. As soon as the winner placed a maximum bid of at least $34, he was automatically going to win over your max of $33
