I got: List FREE – Up to 500 auction-style or fixed priced listings

Even better? It is until Oct 15.

I relisted 130, 30 days listings, that will expire, and I can re-list again. I can load up my store with more listings.

Basically, this month and next, I am paying a store fee for 500 and getting 1000.

No, you do not get 500 free per month. It is 500 free total for 45 days.

Because it spans two months, there is a quirk to this promo.

When you list, it takes from the promo and not from your store listings. So in order to have any free promo listings to carry forward, you have to use less than 500 listings this month. And not use your regular store listings free for the month.

So basically, you would have to use up the 500 for the promo and as many of your regular store listings to get to the 1000. Next month you would only have the 500 store listings because you used up the promo.

My understanding of this promo. Also posted in another topic on this promo.

Here is the other topic on the free promo.

http://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Additional-80-FP-or-auction-listings-until-Oct-15/m-p/312...

There are apparently three versions of the same promo, 80 free listings, 180 and 500. All last until October 15.

The issue of the promo being taken first over regular free listings and how to carry forward to the next month is discussed int the above topic and in this weeks weekly eBay session.

I was trying to point out that you can't get 1000 each month as you posted above.

I'm afraid 'poco' is right.  I brought this up with Raphael yesterday, but he didn't get the point, telling me that it would work for lower volume sellers to be able to benefit from the promo in both September and October.

Well, yes, it will, but if you're a store owner in the habit of using up your monthly store allotment, this promo will only be good for September.  So for me (I got the not-so-good-girl promo of 80), I will only be able to use the 80 promo listings + my 150 store freebies (on .ca) this month, then come October 1st, only my 150 store listings will be available.

I was thinking at first I might be able to use 40 promo listings in September + my 150 (i.e. 190 in Sept.), then another 40 + 150 in October.  Nope.  EBay does it again.  Either this promo was deliberately disingenuous, or somebody at eBay really wasn't thinking clearly on a Monday morning.

So, although the potential total is the same (380 listings), the actual distribution is different than eBay suggests. This is because of the way the promo counter works -- it allocates every listing to the promo until the promo is used up.

In other words, for those of us who list/re-list more than 80 items most months, there's no point telling us the promo runs to October 15th.  It won't.

Which begs the question: who was this promo meant to help in October?  On the face of it, only people who are occasional or hobby sellers.

I don't understand your reasoning.  This promo does not treat occasional or hobby sellers any differently than sellers with stores.  In the first place, if they have very few items to sell, they cannot make use of the promo in any meaningful way.  If the free listings are not used up in September, those sellers do not access their 20 + 20 free fixed and auction listings, so what is the net benefit?  If they are used up in September, they have no carry-over to October.

So what's the difference between occasional and/or hobby sellers and store sellers in this instance?  Nothing - both can benefit to a maximum of 80 listings.  Forget the other permutations of thought and just use as many of them as you can.
