I raised my maximum bid but the amount keeps displaying for the public to see. How is that going to work? How do I hide the maximum bidding amount so no one would know?

In addition, although you can see your name on your bids, everyone else sees the same masked ID as you see for other bidders.
And when you are the high bidder, eBay will encourage you to bid more. You don't have to.
Generally, bid once, bid your maximum, and bid late.
If someone bids higher than your max, he's a sucker for paying too much, eh?
