I think the title is obvious. It's a bit annoying because I keep receiving notifications about being outbid, and it makes my bidding list look messy. I'd love to be able to just quit an auction when I can't match what other bidders are willing to pay.

hi .. Ebay does not allow deleting of items bid on . The reason is that another bidder might retract bid or seller could cancel making you high bidder again and possibly win the item.
Do not bid on a similar item unless you are several times removed from second high.

PS .. the solution is to not bid until as close to the end of auction as possible. Experienced ebayers watch and place their MAX bid in the final seconds of an auction.

Oh also, I guessed you could just check the little box and press delete, but it's not there...

You can ask the seller to cancel your bid. However, this often means that he will also add you to his Blocked Bidder List as a timewaster.
You can click on the WATCH button, which will give you a list of the items that interest you without bidding. The Watch List will also send you an email if the item does not sell and is relisted.
