Illegal copies of DVD's

Hello,

I Purchased a DVD from another ebay member who Stated.

"In like new condition with clem shell case & liner notes."

"Like New: An item that looks as if it was just taken out of shrink wrap. No visible wear, and all facets"

What I got was a Bad Photocopy of the artwork, The DVD was a copy with another Photocopy of the artwork glued to the fake DVD, No Liner Notes and the case was a slim case that was taped shut because the case won't close.

So, I emailed the member and he told me I have to ship it back to him to get my money back which that would cost me more than it's worth.

So, What do I do? Can I have him Charged for selling Illegal Copies of DVD's ? Or Banned from ebay so he won't do this to anyone else ?

Please Advise

"The Man From Planet X" is now in public domain and as such your seller is free to copy it.  He is not doing anything wrong, and whilst you may have expected Criterion quality for a movie that old and at a cost of 2 bucks, - ultimately you got what you paid for.  Your seller is correct that you can return it for a refund, but he is not doing anything illegal by reproducing a public domain movie.  The following link outlines the process if you wish to file for an Item Not as Described.  Although ti sounds to me like it is as described, just not what you imagined:

Illegal copies of DVD's

Hello,

For $2.00 more I bought the same movie with the same listing and she told me all her listings are original (No Copies).

This is the Reason why my friends and neighbours want NOTHING to do with ebay because they get burned by false listings where they list as NEW ???

I guess I should stick with Amazon

Thanks Anyway

Your seller listed the item as 'Like New', - and a freshly turned out copy is exactly that.  For 2 bucks you didn't get "burned", you simply expected a better quality than you paid for.  The quality of any disc depends on the quality of the source.  If you run off a copy from a place like cultcine you'll have a pretty fine piece, yet if you buy a nicely shrinkwrapped version (with high quality paper on the artwork) at Amazon or elsewhere from a studio like Quality Video, Direct Source, or Dagored, - what appears on your screen will be horridly unwatchable, even for people who aren't fussy.  It's places like those which ought to be banned and stopped.  When buying OOP and public domain movies it's a good idea to shop around, - a lot.

Here is eBays public domain and requirements for sellers..

Filing a PayPal dispute hurts a seller and i would file and take up to the point of PP asking for return.

No refund , i would leave appropriate feedback and low DSRs.
