99% of the time I post items to sell when I am invited to list for free (ie. free insertion fees, etc)
And: Is there some sort of 'discount' offered or given to eBay store 'owners'?

Yes there are discounts for Store owners. Listings can cost from 30 to 47 cents less per month than a 30 day Fixed Price listing. However a Store also pays a monthly fee from $15 to $500 depending on the number of items in it.
For most occasional sellers, using the Fifty Free Auctions is best or if you have less than 50 items for sale use Fixed Price/ good til cancelled at 50 cents a month each.

Hi .. Base on what you state , i don't feel a store cost could be justified..
