Item sent to invalid address

An item I ordered has an invalid address as its destination. It's headed to the right city and the postal code is correct, but the name of my street got lopped off somehow (probably through my own error, but I distinctly remember entering it when I placed the order).

Is this going to be a problem? Will the item end up being returned to the sender?

It depends on your postal code.

My postal code is for a one block street. So if my address had the street number and the postal code it would be enough information to reach me.

Google your postal code and see what area the google map shows (good for about 98% of Canadian postal codes) and see how many streets are assigned to that postal code. If just one, you should be okay.

Re: Item sent to invalid address

Google maps highlights the entire city except for the section I live in, so I guess I'm in that 2%. I live in a newer area.

The postal code definitely covers multiple streets, but all mail goes to a community mail box. From what I can tell from playing around with addresses on the Canada Post site, the community mail box that I get my mail from is the only one in my exact postal code.

Then it's going to depend on whether there is enough label info for the postie to know who in the community mail box gets the parcel.

I have a suggestion.  It might not be enough but it is what I would try.  Let's say your box # is 10.  Get a piece of masking tape the width of your box and write your LAST NAME  clearly in careful CAPS.

Mail carriers place mail in the boxes from the back of the stack, not the front where you get it.  Therefore you open box #10, reach in and stick your NAME at the back of the "floor" of the box where the carrier will see it as soon as they open the box.

When the item arrives, even if there is nothing but your name and postal code, it should be easy for the carrier to figure out.  The carrier might remove your label when they see it because I'm not sure but I don't think people are supposed to do that, but until your item arrives just replace it again every day.

You can even include a note if you want briefly telling the carrier what happened, and that you expect an item with just your name and postal code.  If your write a short friendly note, push it to the far end of the box, they'll get it.

Maybe, but my community mailbox opens at the front. The back is up against a thick cedar hedge. Mine is an older style, been there for about 30 years.

The OP claims to live in a new suburb so I can't imagine CP would install the new ones that way.   The point is that the buyer put his LAST NAME where the letter carrier can immediately see it if all there is on the package is that name.

Re: Item sent to invalid address

I've got a set of three of these.

How it works is that the entire grey portion of the front end opens up like one large door and mail is then inserted in the individual boxes. I will try putting my full name on either the inside of my door or within the box with masking tape - that sounds like it will help my chances some. Thanks!
