Good afternoon
"Best Offer"
Sometimes if a lower offer is accepted, the sold page gives the actual selling price, at other times it only gives the original selling price with an indication that an offer was accepted.. One has to be a detective to find the information.
Has there been a change of policy at eBay to attempt to "hide" the selling price? If so, why?
And why is it not applied evenly across all eBay sites?
05-22-2013 01:18 PM
For example, take a look at 300897463437
You made it very difficult for most viewers to see the actual selling price of US$ 34.00. Why?

Hello pierrelebel,
I'm investigating this and will get back shortly.
Thanks!

When buyers accidentally provide an incorrect ship-to address during checkout, to maintain buyer and seller protections, the standard procedure has been for the seller to refund in full so the buyer can supply the correct address on repayment. This ensures that both the eBay Order Details and the PayPal Transaction Details are in sync with the carrier tracking number.
However, for the past month or more, some buyers have complained that they can’t repay once refunded. The Pay Now links under Purchases, in the eBay Cart, and embedded in duplicate invoices, are all inactive. All avenues lead the buyer to this message:
The work-around is to have the seller send a PayPal Money Request for Goods/Services (not eBay item), which isn’t recorded as a payment for an eBay item, thereby voiding eBay’s Buyer Protections. To add to the dilemma, at this point, neither the buyer or seller have the ability on eBay to mark the item as paid under the More Actions drop-down link.
Several of us are wondering if this is a temporary collateral glitch while eBay is phasing in their new BIN features… or is it a permanent feature?
If the latter, are there proper procedures recommended by eBay that safe-guard both transaction partners? Obviously, sending an off-eBay PayPal invoice isn’t one of them.

I find the eBay stores FVF rate on the eBay help page very confusing. Especially for Computers and Consumer Electronics. The help page has exceptions to exceptions (See Inclusions on the the page). Store FVF page below.
pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/storefees.html
eBay has a eBay fee calculator which can be tricked into giving the FVF rate for a category.
http://www.fees.ebay.ca/feeweb/feecalculator#
I trick the page into giving me the FVF rate by using Fixed Price listing type with a price of $10 and free shipping. Then calculate fees to give me $0.40 for 4%, $0.60 for 6%, etcetera.
Now the calculator only goes 3 categories deep so it cannot be used for lower subcategories.
1) Is there a way to lookup a FVF rate? Or a rate sheet with all FVFs listed by catagory?
2) When using the SYI form and selecting a category, I would think that it should show the FVF rate on selection of category. If not there, then on the second page where the fees are listed before submitting a listing, then the FVF rate should show there.
3) When listing in 2 eBay categories, which FVF rate applies? The first category?

Hi, Photograph quality although when I uploaded were to eBay’s specifications are now poor quality. Many images are now showing with a yellow flag when looking at a listing in Turbo Lister. Can you explain why this happens and suggest steps to prevent this from happened in the future? (As per their staffs suggestions my Turbo Lister files are compressed and updates are done regularly.) It hurt$
Thank you, janna!

Hi 2noggins,
This is news to me - I'd like to dig a bit further. Do you have any item numbers you can so we can investigate further?

On reading this, I wondered if it could be in any way connected with the issue I earlier noted, concerning the invoicing ability (or, strictly speaking, the ability to send a revised invoice) disappearing once an initial invoice was sent. Perhaps not related, but creates a similar problem for buyer and seller.

Hi again,
The discrepancy you observed may have been due to the recent transition towards the new View Item page, which deployed in the past week and which no longer displays the actual sale price on items sold with Best Offer. The US site had the new version for a while now, which may explain how you saw some items one way, and others the other way.
As for the reason why we do this, simply put, it's meant to protect a seller's margin and so that the usually lower Best Offer price not be considered as a 'normal' sale price when calculating the past advertized average pricing of an item.
Hope this helps!

I have some info that might help.
I checked some of your listings and the ones for postcards appear to have photos that are 400 pixels on the longest side. Typically 400x300 or 300x400 pixels.
TL has a bug that resides large picture to the default size of 400 pixels on the longest side. This usually occurs if you import listings from eBay into Turbo Lister inventory. As far as I know, this issue is being worked on and is not fixed yet.
What listings have the issue?

Hi pocomocomputing,
Great questions, as usual - and thanks for the valuable suggestions as well - I'll put those forward.
Outside of the calculator you mentioned, there aren't other in-house eBay tools available to calculate the FVF, nor a rate sheet. As for the 2nd category question, I'll have to get back to you on that one, not sure off hand.

Hello all! Making up for lost time in the 1st 15 minutes...;-)
My question is regarding a transaction that has been cancelled by the seller and accepted by the buyer. Why is it still possible for the buyer (and seller for that matter) to leave FB/DSRs in such a circumstance? What's the rationale?
It seems to me that a cancelled transaction is just that --- both parties should be able to walk away completely.

Hi rose-dee,
It's worth looking into - is there a current thread on it right now? Mind sending it my way if there is please?
Thanks,

Can I email you the item #s? The transactions I was involved with using an alternate ID are more than 30 days old and not available for checkout. Not sure if they will help.
