A bidder from Brazil has bid on my item. I list that I ship to Canada and the US and show shipping fees to both countries only. The seller never contacted me prior to bidding to ask if I ship to Brazil or the fees involved.
I cannot ship this item to Brazil, the costs for the buyer would be extortionate, more than the item (a large vase) priced at $149.99
A 300gm padded envelope to Brazil with tracking and insurance for $100 would be over $150, I can't imagine how much a large box would cost to ship.
What can I do? I have contacted the Brazilian bidder and asked them to retract their bid. Is this the best route?
Thank you in advance

Why not just remove the person's bid? As a seller, you can cancel any person's bid for any reason, and you seem to have a pretty good reason. Go here:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/manage_bidders_ov.html#canceling
Then add the person to your blocked list here:

If you wait for the person to remove his own bid, you may wait a long time. 🙂

You did the right thing here, but you may be reassured to know that you are not bound to ship to Brazil (or anywhere overseas) for the rates you gave for Canada and the USA.
This comes up constantly with Canadian buyers who foolishly assume that they will pay the same rates that US sellers give for domestic shipping. The Canadian wins and is billed $25 or more for an item that ships in the USA Free or for less than $5. And the US seller is being honest about his costs.
