Paid for item now seller wants taxes. Can they charge after I already paid for the item and they did not have any taxes?

Here is the email I received just now. I paid and there was no taxes on the invoice. Can they ask for more money after the sale is complete?

Hi.. The listing does state that tax is charged to Ontario residents although it should have been included on your invoice. Can request their registration # but they probably are registered to collect.

From listing..All Canadian orders will be shipped from Ontario, Canada, regardless it's listed on eBay US site or eBay Canada Site. Canadians will not be charged for the customs duties and/or brokerage fees by the carrier. We will collect GST and PST (Ontario only) instead

Ontario only is an odd statement. If registered with Canada Revenue Agency to collect GST/HST , must collect from all provinces. Perhaps i'm missing something.

This seller is located in the US!! How can he charge HST.. Ask for his business and HST number, and tell him to change his location if he is in Ontario!!!

It is not uncommon for a US seller to have a physical presence in Canada and registered with CRA.

Thanks everyone for your response 🙂 The company is located in Ontario also. Something I don't understand is he has two different locations. One is the USA and one is Ontario but the same seller name. I have paid the $50.70 in taxes but after i get the item I will contact EBay and find out what is going on. Thanks again and I will update if I find anything out 🙂
