Hello PowerSellers,

I wanted to send out an update on the status of the launch of expanded seller protection for PowerSellers.

As it stands right now, PayPal expects to launch in the next 2 – 3 weeks. PayPal will come back the week of March 17th with another update. In the meantime, thank you for your continued patience.

For more information, you can also view the US PayPal board at:

Thanks!

Good morning all,

Following up on Bugsy's post from last week, we received an update on this issue from our colleagues at PayPal:

Hi there,

As promised, I'm back with an update on the status of the expanded seller protection launch for PowerSellers. Good news is that we’re still on track for launch within the next 1 – 2 weeks. I’ll be back on or before next Friday, March 21 with another update. Thanks again for your continued patience.

Hello Miriam and thank you for the update. I am just wondering why it is that some Power Sellers already have the protection plan while others do not? It seems some were allowed to register, while others were invited to register and the protection plan is fully in place for these sellers. In the meantime, I have been the unlucky recipient of a credit card chargeback this week. It seems even with proof of shipping and Powerseller status, I am left holding the bag.

Hi stittsville11,

My understanding is that a small number of PowerSellers were invited to register for the program, but that a problem was found that halted the entire process. I did not know that anyone was actually able to register.

At this point, the only information we have is the information we've passed on to you - apparently we are going to receive a further update on Friday. Hopefully it will be an update telling us that registration is once again moving forward. I'll let you know as soon as I hear more.

Hello again Miriam:

Thank you for responding so quickly. I'll watch for your further updates. Although this doesn't solve my problem, it is reassuring that at least one person at eBay is actually paying attention to sellers concerns.

From what I can determine for a very brief period of time, perhaps an hour or so, the sign up link was showing in some(?) users PayPal accounts. It was quickly removed but eBay agreed to cover those who managed to sign up.

The rest of us will have to wait.....for what it's worth of course considering that for many (most?) sellers the new policy changes NOTHING.

PayPal Expanded Seller Protection Update

Update!

Posted on the US Powerseller board earlier today.

Expanded seller protection now available to PowerSellers in the US and Canada

I’m happy to announce that effective today, expanded seller protection is now available as an exclusive offer to eBay PowerSellers in the United States and Canada. The planned launch for expanded seller protection in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong is next week.

What is expanded seller protection? For those of you who many not be aware, expanded seller protection provides PowerSellers with protection against fraudulent payments and item-non-received claims, chargebacks and reversals in 190 markets worldwide on eligible eBay transactions.

With this new level of protection, sellers who enroll will continue to be protected against fraudulent payments and item not received claims and chargebacks with the following improvements:

* No more confirmed address. Merchants can ship to whichever address the buyer provides them through PayPal whether it is confirmed or not.

* No more coverage limit. The coverage payout limit under the Seller Protection Policy is $5,000 per year. Expanded seller protection has no limit.

* Coverage in more places around the world. Coverage is now extended to the 190 markets supported by PayPal, so merchants can ship to customers wherever they are.

Remember to enroll. Expanded seller protection from PayPal is free and there’s no annual coverage cap. Enrollment is required and takes only moments. To learn more, visit the PayPal Security Center.

Expanded seller protection is available to registered eBay PowerSellers whose country of residence and eBay registration are in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or Hong Kong. To participate, you must also have a PayPal account that is registered in one of the countries listed above and linked to your eBay account. Your PayPal and eBay accounts must be in good standing.

Invitations for expanded seller protection. Over the next few days, if you’re eligible to enroll in expanded seller protection, you’ll receive an email from PayPal and begin seeing ad banners on Account Overview, the Security Center and other PayPal site locations as well as banners on the PowerSeller hub page. We’ll also have a message in your eBay My Messages. Links from these emails, banners and My Messages will take you to the expanded seller protection page in the PayPal Security Center. If you prefer not to wait for emails or banners, and wish to find out whether or not you’re eligible, feel free to visit http://www.paypal.com/expandedsellerprotection and click on the Enroll now button.

eBay Workshop: Improving Protections for eBay PowerSellers.

Please join the PayPal Merchant Risk, eBay Trust & Safety, and the eBay PowerSeller teams on Thursday, April 3, 10am – 11am Pacific time. We’ll also answer your questions about Payment Review, the Seller Protection Policy, and how eBay, PayPal and PowerSellers can work together to reduce the risk of chargebacks, claims and buyer fraud.

We regret any confusion or frustration resulting from the delay in the launch of expanded seller protection. We are confident, however, that you will find the wait well worth it and look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your continued business!

...and I am now enrolled. If it works as it states, it will be a great relief for future transactions.

Probably means you don't fully understand PayPal SPP.

I got the invitation and had no problems signing up! Won't do me much good - most of my stuff (postcards) goes lettermail - no receipts, no tracking!

If you've received your invitation and/or know you are eligible but can't sign up, try contacting ebayharrigan@paypal.com.

I know there are a few instances where people who have been had trouble enrolling, and they've been able to help resolve the situation.

Cheers,

Miriam
