I was checking Tracked Packet USA with PayPal ShipNow option. It appears to working correctly. It gives the correct shipping rate based on weight as long as the item is under the allowed dimension for the service. I tried all kinds of weight and dimension combinations and I got the correct postage amount for test with valid data or error messages if my tests had invalid data. Using Tracked Packet also seemed stable and glitchy like before.
I wonder if they left the postage amount showing on the PayPal label for Tracked Packet. All other services do not show postage using PayPal labels as far as I know. Please post if postage is fixed if you use PayPal tracked Packet.
I emailed Kalvin for a confirmation that Tracked Packet is officially fixed.

I'm Cofused.
I thought this looked wonky yesterday...
I used Expedited for a few items and they offered insurance.
I bought it and paid for it, but now that I look closely I'm seeing that my items are only insured for $100
They had no trouble taking my $ though.
Was that another glitch?

treasure hunter, In some cases, it might be worth your while to go to the post office for Tracked Packet. If you have a venture one card you get 5% off. That is definitely less than 14% but it is better than nothing
Yes, I have a Venture One card but the problem is cash. Right now I'm stretched really thin with the cost of inventory and how slow business has been and I really can't afford to be paying up front for shipping. It's an option but it comes back to the fact that I shouldn't have to be out the money up front for shipping if these goobers could just do their jobs in an expedient manner.
I appreciate the input though and trust me I have been looking at all options . If this goes on much longer I'm going to have to get overdraft on my bank account to cover shipping, at least until some cash clears PayPal to my account. But oh wait, now there's another kettle of fish altogether, how many stinkin' days it takes for money to go from PayPal to my bank and why we don't have PayPal debit cards in Canada like they do in the US.

Last night I was shocked to see the increased rate for Expedited to New York City increased from $14.85 to $22.50!!
Honeybed,
Where did you see those rates? Are they Canada Post Expedited Parcel - USA or discounted eBay/PayPal rates?
In January Canada Post raised Exp Prcl USA rates around 5 to 8.7% from 2012 rates, depending on the zone (the bigger increases were for the zones closest to the shipper). The increase you mentioned seems way out of line.
AFAIK, the eBay/PayPal discount on Exp Prcl USA is still around 20% off the Canada Post Business rates (25% off the Counter rates). Do you not agree?

Shipping options have changed so much during a short period of time that my system no longer works.
Paypal/ebay already know about Tracked Packet being missing and it looks like international surface has disappeared as well. Did you notice anything else that should be available on Paypal shipping but isn't? I just want to know so that we can let them know.
I'm still not sure what to make of this new $650 eBay coverage for items sold via .com.
To me is sounded like items could be shipped without signature confirmation and get seller protection form ebay (not paypal)............... what's that all about?
Actually it is $750 but that is valid only if the buyer buys while shopping on .com. From what I understand, the item doesn't have to be originally listed on .com but it does have to be purchased from there. When an item is purchased on .com and there is a claim opened, the claim goes through ebay. If it is purchased while on another ebay site, the case would go through Paypal and in that case, the amount is $250 U.S. if the item was listed in U.S. $. There is also the amount of $325Cdn mentioned on the paypal site and according to one of the reps on the weekly board session, that means that amount is valid only if the item was listed in Cdn $. I would probably check with Paypal on that though before assuming that was true.
Just thought of something...I'm not sure that if an item is purchased on one site, a claim always goes through that same site. So if someone buys on ebay on .com but then tries to open a claim on their own country site, I am not 100% certain that the claim would automatically go through ebay so I think that it is better to get a signature after $250 U.S. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Actually, I would recommend always getting signature confirmation after $250 if the item is being paid for by Paypal. That's assuming that you are worried about a buyer claiming an inr.

Why do you think it is only insured for $100...where are you seeing that? When you are doing the shipping label, near the bottom of the first page there is a blank box where you put the insurance value and you also have to check off whether or not you want to buy extra insurance...maybe that was missed??

Tom the discount recently went down to 18% for expedited. That is 18% off of the counter price for regular parcel which includes the fuel surcharge.
Honeybed may be comparing weights rather than dimensions as I agree with you that the rates did not go up as much as H stated.

I believe that rep was wrong. In the very same paragraph where it mentions the $325 amount it finishes by saying "or the equivalent converted from other currencies" or something really close to that.
I ran into that just recently when I sold a $300 item and panicked when it dawned on me suddenly that I was going to have to get a signature to qualify for seller protection so I looked it up and found the new $325 limit for Canada sellers and that's where I saw the mention of other currencies. I list all of my items in US currency because for some reason Canadians rarely buy from me making Americans 99% of my business and they seem more comfortable with the listings in US funds.

Forgot to mention that I panicked because the only shipping option we Canadians have that can get a signature is ExpressPost and that is ungodly expensive. In this case, for a very small and light item it would have cost me $34 to ship to MA in the US.

A few weeks ago during the weekly meeting, one of the ebay reps said that eBay seller protection was up to $650 for items listed and sold on .com.
Apparently items under $650 can be shipped without signature confirmation and get full seller protection from ebay but on .com.
It almost sounds like if the buyer files a case with payal, the limit is $325 (they told me $250 on the phone yesterday though), but if the buyer files with ebay it's $650.
Does any of that make sense?

You could be right but I think that next time I have to call Paypal, I'll ask them about it as I still don't think that it is clear on their website
https://cms.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=ua/UserAgreement_full#11.%20Protection%20for%20Sellers.
Signature Confirmation as described below if the full amount of the payment, including shipping and taxes, is $325 CAD, or its foreign currency equivalent provided below:
The U.S. dollar amount below is $250.so to me, it sounds as if is either $325 in Cdn OR $250 U.S. It does not sound as if is based on the current exchange rate. But I'm still not clear if it depends on which currency the item is paid for.

As I mentioned in post 43, the amount is $750, not $650. You are right that amount is valid only if a case has been opened through ebay rather than paypal. The only time a case can be opened on ebay is if the item was purchased on .com. It doesn't have to be listed there, just purchased there.

OMG! I've just read through the posts on this discussion - could it get any more complicated?
This is just my guess, but it's possible the Cdn $325 figure for Paypal coverage may be a figure that represents the "worst case" currency exchange from US $250, i.e. around 75 cents. This would make some sense, as it would cover just about any normally anticipated exchange rate fluctuations.
I always pay for signature confirmation on anything over $250 US just to be on the safe side.
Incidentally, I tried to get a Small Packet 'quote' off the eBay/Cda Post 'Calculate a Rate' link yesterday, and couldn't get a result at all after putting the details and dimensions in. However, the Paypal online label did go through. There have been some very bizarre goings-on re the shipping interface.
Does anyone know if Tracked Packet is now available online and working properly?

As of now, 1:07 PM EST Tracked Packet is still Missing In Action from the options on the PayPal shipping page.
This is so far beyond stupid at this point that it defies stupid stupidity stupidness.....

How many buyers on EBay open cases on paypal rather than ebay?
I don't know the answer........... but it has to be a very small percentage.
The $750 on .com seller coverage...........
Does that mean that tracked packet or expedited is OK for items under $750?
That is, if I ship a $700 item to France with tracked packet, and the buyer says is didn't arrive but the CPO says it did...........
AND that buyer opens a case with eBay that it will be found in my favour?
For me as a buyer.......... Yikes!
That is telling me to open cases on Paypal and not on ebay.
It's not uncommon to receive items at my door delivered to me by mistake.
I've had the odd item appear at my door during off hours, and my guess it those items were delivered to the wrong address.
That could easily occur with tracked packet as well.

"Paypal coverage may be a figure that represents the "worst case" currency exchange"
Not really. The local currency amounts for the PayPal Seller Protection programs were established years ago, as shown below (available in the User Agreement). At no time were those amounts reflecting a currency exchange.
350 Australian Dollar (AUD) 1,600 Norwegian Krone (NOK)
500 Brazilian Real (BRL) 12500.00 Philippine Peso (PHP)
6,000 Czech Republic Koruna (CZK) 800 Polish New Zloty (PLN)
1,500 Danish Krone (DKK) 150 Pound Sterling – United Kingdom (GBP)
200 Euro (EUR) 400 Singaporean Dollar (SGD)
2,000 Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) 2,000 Swedish Krona (SEK)
55,000 Hungarian Forint (HUF) 330 Swiss Franc (CHF)
1,000 Israeli Shekel (ILS) 8250.00 Taiwan New Dollar (TWD)
28,000 Japanese Yen (JPY) 9000.00 Thai Baht (THB)
2,200 Mexican New Peso (MXN) 250 United States Dollar (USD)
380 New Zealand Dollar (NZD)

It has nothing to do with which site the sellers lists their items on.
Buyers do NOT have a choice of where to open a case.
If a buyer signs into .com, purchases an item and then later opens a case about that item, the case will automatically go through ebay buyer protection.
Same scenario, but the buyer had purchased while signed into .ca or .au. or de etc...... the case will automatically go through paypal.
The seller really has no way of knowing which site the item was purchased on which is why imo it is a good idea to stick with the $250 U.S. maximum.
05-07-2013 03:29 PM
Not really. The local currency amounts for the PayPal Seller Protection programs were established years ago, as shown below (available in the User Agreement). At no time were those amounts reflecting a currency exchange.
Pierre, what is your theory then? In order to be covered by Paypal seller protection, when is it required that the seller has a signature after $250 U.S. versus $325 Cdn?
Do you think that it is based on the currency that the item was listed, the site the seller is registered on or.....?
05-07-2013 03:38 PM
"Pierre, what is your theory then?"
Frankly, I do not have any.
eBay staff has never given sellers a clean cut answer.
In general terms, I understand that if a transaction took place on eBay.com and the claim is made on eBay.com, then the $750 limit applies
For Canadian sellers, answering claims through PayPal, I would think Cdn$325 applies if the transaction was conducted in Cdn$ while US$250 applies if the transaction was conducted in US$.
However, this is a grey area and I would really love for senior Canadian management to give us a clean and comprehensive answer covering all possibilities (currency of listing, site listed, site sold, location of buyer, location of seller, where claim is made PayPal or eBay).
Personally I never cared about the limited PayPal Seller Protection program and never used it, even for very large transactions.
05-07-2013 03:40 PM
" I would really love for senior Canadian management to give us"
However, I expect the good folks at eBay to balk and give us the usual..."great question but that is not really our department. You shoud contact PayPal." 😞

""" sighs

PJ...... sighs right back at "ya..........
All joking aside though:
Since when is it not possible to open a case on Paypal as opposed to eBay?
Since you do know your stuff.......... and I know you do.......... I took the time to double check.
I can open a case on paypal no problem for any item I choose.
I am not forced to open it on ebay.anywhere.
During the weekly meeting one of the reps stated that the item has to be listed on .com as opposed to .ca to qualify for $750 seller protection.
I also noticed that there is a new recording on the website about various protections, and the recording makes it very clear that these protections only apply to .com items.
I can't recall the exact words......... but I was surprised at the emphasis to exclude other sites.
Maybe I didn't understand your post?
