Paypal not refunding full fee

Hello all, 


This may have been covered in an update but apparently, I missed it.  I had a parcel show as delivered, but it was not delivered to the buyer.  I went thru Canada Post and they are doing a refund so I refunded my buyer as soon as CP said they would cut a check in 10 days.  When I did the paypal refund, the amount of the fees refunded to me was 2.06 instead of the 2.66 I had paid paypal to begin with.  Of course my buyer received the full amount but it seems paypal decided to charge me 50 cents to do the refund.  It does not seem quite fair since I lose that as well as the FVF since it is past the deadline to file a sale cancellation.  Did you guys know about this fee for a refund?  And do you just eat the FVF that is lost when something like this happens?  Thanks for any insight/info!

It's been quite a while (last year?) since Paypal stopped refunding the 30 cent transaction fee but I'm not sure why it's 60 cents in your case.

you are right.  I was off.  I am unsure where I got that number.  I think anger got the best of me.   But it was 30 cents they deducted.  It isn't bad enough that we lose so much on the exchange spread, now they take back the transaction fee when we do refunds. 😞

The change of policy was announced a year ago, effective August:


 


Effective Date: Aug 10, 2010


Amendment to the PayPal User Agreement Section 8.5


(Additional Fees) is amended to add a new refund fee.


 If you refund a Purchase Payment, we will retain the Fixed Fee portion of the Purchase Payment Fee. The buyer’s Account will be credited with the full Purchase Payment amount and the Fixed Fee portion of the Purchase Payment Fee will be deducted from your Account in addition to the amount of the refunded payment. The Fixed Fee will depend on the currency of the Purchase Payment and is listed in 8.4(c).

Paypal not refunding full fee

Paypal reversed the payment by customer without telling me (twice), no email notification nothing but merchandise was already sent off.


emailed paypal with no reply except an automated response with a case #.


emailed again with case # given and was asked why are you emailing us, what's your email id, your transaction id and so forth.


talk about frustrating!
