If there is a postal strike, i would pretty much have to close shop, its too pricey to send my items via courier.

Triber, I'm planning on closing my stores on those dates too (22-24th).

I'm putting my Store in vacation mode on Jun 26th.

It's because of a lockout that I know 100% will be happening on June 30th and it has nothing to do with Canada Post!

I will be locking myself out for 5 weeks (maybe longer)!

Camping again this year?  It sounds like good timing for a holiday.

Yes vintagenorth, I feel that this is my best option. My sales are down like a lot of other sellers, so if there is a strike, I have plenty to do without losing too many sales.

I still have to delete about 140 listings on .ca and then list them on .com, it takes quite a while. I always try every so often to go though all my items, and make sure they are still listed, some do a disappearing act, but what is worse if I have something listed that I have already sold.

Hi triber, I'm going to use the time to retake photos of my oldest items. I used to do that twice a year to refresh them but too many now to do it on a regular basis. It's all I can do to list a few new items each day. Seems to take longer the older I get. Plus it's gardening season, next will be going to the cottage season, then redecorating, and on and on...

i need to to win a lottery and hire me a housekeeper and a gardener so I have time for eBay! 😀

You don't need to win the lottery. All you need to do is list in CAD, subscribe to an anchor store, offer free shipping, offer free returns, take at least 26.5 photos of each item, and follow other best practices and you'll soon be on your way to being an ebay millionaire! Heck you might even be able to buy Canada Post with your profits once they are finished dismantling it! Smiley LOL

If you won a lottery, why would you even want to stay on Ebay. Frustration and problems with Ebay will not go away even if you win the lottery!

I am finding Ebay like molasses again today as well as constant error messages.

If I ever won a lottery, it would be adios Ebay. Hobbies, here I come.

Everyone should also accept the fact that they  (CPC employees) will be locked out.  I expect this might be the case as the union asked for a two week extension from the Govt of Canada and the answer was NO.

Also USPS and others use CPC  to deliver after they clear customs in most cases, not only remote areas.  Unfortunately I have never received anything coming from an International Seller that has not come by Canada Post, sadly.

The CPC people at the outlets (some of them) belong to a different union and will not be on strike but also will have nothing to do.

CPC and their employer have been negotiating for a year as of July 2.  The UNION has presented a new proposal and they will find out if it is accepted. July 5th will be strike or lockout.  This usually long as an arbitrator may be involved or the Govt will just order them back to work.

Anyway that is what I got from a Canada Post Employee.

I haven't heard anything about rotating strikes but who knows.  CPC has slowed down significantly for about the last week or so.

Wrong.

Business as usual for Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday.

72 hour notice required for Canada Post to lockout.

72 hour notice required for CUPW to strike.

And the deadline for Wednesday has now passed. (www.cupw.ca)

Next day of choice will be Thursday made on Sunday..

The staff in postal outlets work for the business they are located in.

So if your local postal outlet is in back of Shopper's Drug Mart, the staff works for SDM, not Canada Post.

And they are likely not unionized, unless the rest of the shop is. (Most Loblaws stores are unionized, for example.)

If there is a lockout or a strike, they will be transferred to other duties as their employer requires, stocking shelves or cashier for example.

Hi,

I sent a note to my buyer explaining the situation, and offering to cancel the transaction if time was a factor. She was very generous and understanding, and said not to worry.

I can confirm this is correct - I am a postal clerk at one of the SDM outlets. No affiliation with Canada Post aside from representing their brand and selling their services. I am an employee of SDM and not in any union.

When the strike/lockout commences all retail locations will remain open. Packages may or may not be accepted - at my location we will be accepting parcels for a bit until our available space in the back room is full, at which point we will stop accepting any parcels. The outlets still offer many services that are strike-independent such as money orders/moneygrams, retail sales of stamps/coins, bill payment options, and various pre-paid credit card services.

Unsurprisingly, service will be slow. We will help out with merchandising as needed - many postal clerks at SDM locations are also trained in the photo lab.
