Postal Strike???

Our letter carrier said this morning that there is talk of a possible postal strike. She is hoping that is not the case as she can't afford to be off work.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

"She is hoping that is not the case as she can't afford to be off work. "

If she really means that, maybe, just maybe, she should vote gainst a strike instead of following like sheep as postal union members often do.

They are over-paid and don't live in the same world as us.

One can only hope.

But then again it might be nice to take the summer off.;-)....as long as they don't postpone it 'til fall. Or better still, not strike at all.

Let them strike, more power to private carriers.

Using a private carrier isn't feasible for many sellers. Most of my items are sent lettermail, light or small packet. A private carrier isn't going to be able to match the price of those services.

Ditto. The cost would be out of sight for shipping $10 to $ 20 items.

Sending letter to anyone in Canada for affordable price is your constitutional right, CanadaPost is not lettermail, they are only exclusive holder or this privilege together with all the perks that come with it. If they go bankrupt, federal government will find another carrier who can ensure continuation of this service and I would say there will be a line-up.

Let's not get carried away!

Here is the Constitution of Canada: http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/const/index.html

Where do you find that "constitutional right" to send/receive a letter at affordable price? It's not there!

I asked about the strike at the PO today and was told there will be no strike. Our postal workers did not seem too interested in strike, but I am sure they take any opportunity to get day off.

It probably depends on which postal employees you are talking to as well as which Post Office. I am sure they all have varied opinions on whether or not they should strike. If they were all in agreement they would not need to vote on it.

The Post Office also has several different unions covering different types of work.
