Purchased arrived broken, now what?

I purchased a china tea set that arrived broken due to faulty packaging by the seller. There was nothing in the box preventing the pieces from hitting each other during transport, each piece was only put into non-sealed manufacturer bubble wrap bags (which the seller said were the originals when it was purchased by her).

I was granted a refund from the seller, but do I also get refunded for the shipping? The item was listed with the Global Shipping Program.

Also, the seller wants me to send the set back to file a claim against USPS. However, the shipping cost to send it back is substantially more than what the seller says they paid, but is closer to what I actually paid to receive it. There is a major discrepancy between what I paid to have it shipped versus what the the seller says they have a receipt for.

Where do I go from here?

The Global Shipping Program is relatively new and few of us have experience in handling goods purchased through the program and damaged in transit.

I suggest you contact customer support at eBay (link on top of this page at right).

The seller should have given you a full refund of the original amount paid (including shipping).

Good luck and please keep us posted.

In terms of the refund, I only received confirmation from PayPal that a refund was coming for the amount paid to the seller. With the Global Shipping Program, there were 2 charges to my account--one from the seller and one to the shipping company. I wasn't sent anything regarding a refund for the second charge.
