I'm a little confused.
In a fairly recent thread, I learned that rather than go through the Resolution Center to cancel a transaction, it was quicker to use the "Cancel Order" option from the drop-down menu next to the unpaid item. Rather than resurrect the whole thread, one of the responses was as follows (and others said much the same thing).

I just did a cancellation for an item that had not yet been paid for (listed on .ca).
I used the dropdown in My eBay, picked Buyer requested or address wrong and was told I had a instant credit of FVF's. (I can't check for the credit right now because it's the end of the month billing period where no info is available).
A few minutes later I received a message from eBay
You successfully canceled an order |
Hi xxxxxxxxxxx, You canceled an order from xxxxxxxxx, and we already notified them. You don't need to do anything else because the buyer hasn't paid for this order yet. You'll get a final value fee credit in your account that you can apply toward listing more items to sell on eBay. |
As I indicated, others confirmed that by doing this, they received their FVF credit right away.
Well, I did cancel an order a couple of days ago, using that option, and selected the "buyer requested a cancellation ......" reason. There was some comment that I should ensure that the refund was issued. Well, the buyer had not paid, so I assumed "eBay would know that".
However, there sits the pending cancellation in the Unpaid Items column, with a flag and a note reading "You've approved cancellation of this order. Waiting for buyer to confirm refund:"
I don't understand this. The buyer didn't pay and it looks like I will still have to wait for 10 days for closure.
(BTW, this was listed on .ca, just as recped's was.)

I'm just as confused.
There was a discussion about this on one of the U.S. boards the other day and some seem to have to wait and others said they got credited right away so I have no idea when it works one way and when it works the other way.

There is no rhyme nor reason to it. I have had the same experience and, adding confusion to the entire process, is that the messages received that prompt you to take action to the next step often completely contradict what you know you is the case. Right now, for example, I have two Cancel Transaction request in my Resolution Centre which are awaiting the Buyer's Response. (Both were as a result of a buyer error.)
The first one I opened directed me through the old pages and process that I have not seen in months and the second to the new. Even now, when I click on the link that tells you go to more details, one directs me to the old pages, the other new. There is something disconnected here.

This morning I received an e-mail from eBay that was identical to the one that recepd received in my original post.
I can't explain it, but I'm happy that I didn't have to wait 10 days for it to close.
