I bought an item from Argentina which I have to return. The seller has posted an address in the States for the return but I'm not sure I can do that. Can I ship to a different address than the item was shipped from?
I fully understand why she'd want that. $87 vs $18 but does that work for eBay?

Why is it being returned? Is it not as described? Is it past the Ebay return limit?
If you don't open a claim, you will probably never see your money or shipping costs back.
With a claim, they have to pay you your return shipping costs up front to return with tracking to the address on file with Ebay which is the only address to return to.
If they won't pay the return shipping, Ebay will probably refund and let you keep the item.

Yes, I've done all that. Seller is sending funds for the return.
The seller sent me a US address for the return but the item was shipped from Argentina.
I spoke with CS and she said it's OK to return to a different address than it was shipped from but I'd feel better if someone here verified that.
Not so sure about CS information but you guys are pretty good.

Don't believe a word CS tells you.
If you ship to an address different to the one Ebay/Paypal have, you will not get a refund through Ebay or Paypal
There is still a lot of information missing.
Is it a SNAD, have you opened a claim through Ebay or Paypal/ If so, they will give you the address to return it to and that is where it has to go and the seller needs to send you enough money to send it there with tracking. Seller can tell you any address and if it is not the same as Ebay/Paypal, you will be _________.
If they want you to send to a different address, put the onus on the seller, have them send you a full refund and the shipping and then you can send it where ever they want.

If you can demonstrate that you have shipped this item back to the address provided to you by the seller through either the Resolution Centre or via ebay Messages, and you show that you have TRACKING that indicates it was delivered, you will get your money back.
It's not uncommon for a seller to have a different return address than a ship-from address.
The important thing is that this is all documented. And tracked.

Thank you mj. I wanted to be sure and knew someone here would absolutely know.

Is the seller dropshipping from Argentina?
The usual advice is to return to the seller and not to the supplier.
After all, when an eBay seller is using Amazon as the supplier, or a wholesaler in Shanghai, not only is the item expensive to return, but the return may not be eliglible for Confirmation of Delivery.

all I will say is do as you please since you seem to already have your mind made up as to what to do. Why ask?

I think so. It started to look that way as I got more information.
dutch: I asked because I had some doubts, but it was clear that mj nailed it as soon as she posted.
