SUDDEN LIMITING OF SELLER ACCOUNT after more than 8 years of selling...

Has anyone else been sent an email limiting seller account? I have been selling since 2004, have 100% feedback and excellent DSRs - but today My account was capped. I was on the phone to Ebay no less than 3 times - wasted about 2 hours - still no logical reason given.

Any hints from other sellers? thanks

It is a game. You want high limits, sell a lot more. You wanna be a small time seller, deal with low limits. eBay wants a commitment from you to either "go big or go home".

I kinda agree with this, only because that 's what seems to have happened to us. We came back after being away for years and years and began selling again. At first we had restrictions and omg, made so many mistakes, but learned from them and plodded on... We sold more and more and suddenly, we no longer were restricted to just 50 listings. Now we can sell much more.

I don't have a store, the fees kinda scare me so I'll sell a bit more first, learn more and then maybe open a store.

I absolutely agree that long time sellers, good sellers should always be rewarded for their efforts and if they pay fees to help others benefit, then there should be breaks given and that should include store sellers. The "committed" sellers on here are the backbone to success and without them... well I wouldn't buy here because the big and newer companies don't sell what I collect nor do they sell what my clients are looking for...

Lots of constructive help on this thread compared to .com and I found it very useful and OP, I do hope things turn around for you soon. Good luck.

@orpahnitems, when replying, you make no reference to who you are replying to so readers have no idea who you are replying to or what you are referring to..

Now it is makes replies long if you quote the post that you are replying to so just use the posters eBay id with the at @ sign in front so a reader has a clue to whom you are replying.

If you have a line you object to out of a long post, copy and paste it along with the @ebayid and make bold or italics.

A suggestion to making your posts and replies easier to understand and follow.

Re: SUDDEN LIMITING OF SELLER ACCOUNT after more than 8 years of selling...

Thank you for your intelligent and constructive comments. I want this to work for everyone, so I think I will post more often when I come up on a problem. I think it would be better if Ebay explained HOW to meet the targets they want - rather than the punishment and censuring way of treating sellers.

They seem to have forgotten that the SELLERS are customers too! WE pay the bills -

I have made a move to abebooks for my books, and am considering Etsy for my small used and vintage items. I feel I have little choice.

Thanks again - your words are encouraging - I will be watching very closely how EBAY acts.

Pierre - Sorry this reply was for you:

Hi - Thank you for your help. You are one of the sellers that has logic ! I think it would be better if Ebay educated the buyers on what the stars are - or spelled it out better - IE - when rating SHIPPING TIME - Look at the postmark - Did the seller POST the item when they said they would?

I dread what Customs is going to be like to the USA with the Government cutting The US Customs staff -

I personally know someome that was new to Ebay - was mad at what it cost him to have parts mailed to him - so he protested by giving the seller all negative! I had quite a heated conversation with him - (he is my friend and we were having coffee), HE HAD NO IDEA what he had really done!

He was just an uninformed angry person....

I do appreciate YOUR efforts here - and always read YOUR comments first -

Thanks again,

Jennifer

THIS WAS FOR

inuk_the_polar_bear - But after searching the profile - i realized that

inuk_the_polar_bear has 0% feedback - has lots of negatives on his account and has not sold anything since July 2011, and has nothing for sale, Thus I would not consider them a reliable source of any information. I currently ignore them.

inuk sells under another eBay id and uses the inuk one for just posting at this time.

A posting id is useful to avoid any association with negative forum topics or replies made from a selling id.

POCOMOCOMPUTING - Thank you for helping me make this post better! and I also had no idea that a person can use more than ONE id here. MY IGNORANCE is my excuse.

It is great to see the constructive ideas coming in.

My limits are up to 300 now - but still can't figure out WHY they suddenly did this. I still have over 300 listings that need to be relisted, but can't use them, so all That work is going stale.

It would be different if I was advised or that they had this all along, but after all my work and years of doing this - it was shocking.

There is no logic or justice sometimes.

All the explanations have been provided. You have chosen to ignore them. You have chosen to be rude to those whom you know nothing about.

ALL sellers have limts. You either had yours lowered due to very low sales volume, or, you hit the number of listings or dollar value for the month. Constantly opining "I do not understand", in the face of explanations, is disingenuous.

Than you for being rude to me. I have been doing this for a decade. A lot of us have different IDs for different reason.

inuk the polar bear - I appologize for my ignorance of using different IDs, and any rudeness that i said as a result. I was trying to see if you have a reliable reputation - and I had nothing else to go on. There are a lot of postings that are NOT helpful.

I see that you are trying to be constructive and I thank you for that.

I still do not agree with Ebay that I am capped after all the years I have been a good seller - so I do not think it is logical or fair, and I still have about 300 listings that I cannot relist due to this new cap.

If you have something to contribute to this - for myself and others facing this - It would be much appreciated.
