I sold an item worth about $450 to someone in Singapore with almost no FB.
I thought I's ship Xpresspost with insurance, but it seems that CPO won't insure for more than $100 to Singapore no matter how I ship.
No Third Party Insurance provider covers Singapore.
I can ship with signature confirmation, but what happens if the item is just never delivered?
What good is signature confirmation then if CPO won't insure?
I didn't realize that CPO would not insure to some countries no matter how much you spend for shipping.
I know one thing I'm going to do is block all countries for which CPO does offer insurance.
Does anyone have any tips on what to do with this transaction?

It looks like insurance is available for surface shipping............ but when I try to punch it in it won't work.
Does anyone know anything about that?
I'm thinking of making an exception and shipping via surface mail.

To make it even more difficult.......... there is no consistency.
Paypal shipping options are not the same as those on the CPO website and I'm betting that the options at the CPO outlet will be different yet.
I have a headache trying to figure this one out.
What sense does it make to offer insurance up to $1,000 for surface shipping where more can go wrong..................
while other methods won't go over $100?

Maybe the various companies you have been researching are politely telling you that some sales are not worth having?
Insurance is low cost when low risk, high cost when high risk . And refused when the insurer is pretty sure there will be a claim of loss or damage.
For low cost items, it is reasonable to self-insure, but I would be nervous of shipping to a country where insurers fear to tread.

femme, I thought about cancelling the transaction, but the buyer also ended up buying several lower priced items from me over the course of the weekend.
With that came the ability to really trash my FB.
TPI providers just recently changed the countries they'd insure to and I wasn't expecting that I could no longer rely on that backup.
Shipping to these high risk countries?: It's jsut not that clear cut.................. If one item out of 5 items get lost I've still made a nice profit.
The problem comes with having to work it all out from scratch because of all the changes.
Once you have a system.......... you use it mindlessly.
This, however, was just like when I first started shipping.

450 is risky.
Lets hope one of the five items that may get lost is not this one.

Yes, this does get tiring, but we manage to do it, kicking & screaming of course, but we still do it.

Well, my cost wasn't $450 and there is $100 automatic insurance.
My loss wouldn't be $450.
I'm also assuming they'd also refund the $80 shipping cost, and so there is a lot of motivation for CPO to get it there.
The Singapore PO........ Not So Much........... but they must get pressured by other POs down the line especially with expensive shipping.
I'm not worried about the buyer.
Since is it's getting shipped Xpresspost I've covered myself as much as possible.
Does anyone know why 2 labels get printed when you use Xpresspost?

Sounds like good margins, i would take that risk with 100 insurance.

Can you ship with Fedex or UPS to them?

my experience when I shipped to France using Xpresspost (I think I got 3 label print outs maybe it was only 2) Was that they were to be used with those plastic self adhesive pouches. The sales info, including buyers address, sellers address and custom declaration are on them. All labels go in the pouch, and the forwarding postal services (not Canada post) and/or customs can then open the pouch keep a copy tape the pouch up and send it on to the the buyer.
Almost like a packing slip or bill of lading of sorts.
Thats the way I understood it.. I could be wrong

Singapore a high-risk country??!! That's rich. One of the world's most modern and successful city-states and you're nervous about shipping to it?
Of course it's ridiculous that Canada Post doesn't offer air parcel service to Singapore, an international air transport hub with an airport that is consistently rated Number One.
I find it difficult to believe that no third party will insure to Singapore.
Why don't you send it Canada Post Priority Worldwide, which allows you coverage up to $1000? If you can afford it.

Thanks for the info re the 2 labels. I'll see if I can find the copies. I think I tossed them.
I didn't think Singapore should be high risk, but I couldn't insure this anywhere ........... not even with Xprsspost........... so I concluded that's the reason for it.
Priority $$$$ makes no sense. (Even Xprsspost is pushing it.)
