I believe the fact that a coin has been cleaned should be mentioned in the title of the ad. In my opinion listing the info further down is nothing more than a seller hoping someone doesn't read down that far. It's not dishonest, but it sure isn't 100% above board either. I paid top dollar for a coin that had been cleaned. You guessed right if you guessed it was mentioned in other info about the coin and not in the title of the ad. You also guessed right if you guessed that I failed to read that far. So it is, of course, my own fault, which I don't dispute. But unless you're trying to hide it why not mention it in the title? And if you're trying to hide it, then you are dishonest, PERIOD! I assure you that I have learned(the hard way)to read EVERY word associated with an item. I will not bid on any item where a buyer doesn't mention critical info in the ad title.

I don't know anything about coins.
The reason I mention is that is because it would never occur to me that cleaning or not cleaning a coin would matter one iota to a buyer and it would never occur to me to mention it........
Is it really that important?
I do buy and sell Sterling and I clean it because it's so much nicer that way.
It would never occur to me that coins are any different......
So, no, I wouldn't mention it anywhere.
I guess I'd have to learn the hard way from an angry buyer then :).

Yes they should
If you clean your coins and don't know what you are doing
you will devalue them.
Leave the cleaning to the experts who know the proper procedure.

No offence..but that is why there are descriptions in listings. Not everything is in the title.Did the seller say it was cleaned in the description?..If they did..they described it correctly. It always use to amaze me when people woud ASQ and I would always have to answer..."as stated in the description the item is blah blah blah..." One of the biggest peeves sellers have is buyers not reading the whole listing.

"Should a seller mention a coin has been cleaned in the ad title?"
As far as I am concerned, if a coin has been cleaned, that fact should be mentionned in the description.
Do you have a concern with a specific item? Listing number?

dont ever buy a coin thats been cleaned unless for 50% off book. cleaning drives the value way down. dont ever ever clean a coin or war medal.

I won't clean my coins then.
I don't think I would have done so in any case, but I do clean Sterling to a point............ and it generally sells much better that way.
A dirty piece is very attractive........... but coins have their own standards.
Good to know.
I posted the way I did because this might not be something everyone is aware of if they don't do coins on a regular basis.....
So maybe cut the seller some slack if he/she isn't familiar with the area..... :).

wasnt being rude. pointing out the facts. coin/war medla buyers are a strange bunch, i should know im one of em. very particular and very specific. selling a cleaned coin and not mentioning will be sure to draw a response in some fashion from them

mika........ didn't think you were being rude.
I just thought it interesting that this particular group of collectors has this particular quirk.
I have a few coins to sell and so it's good to know............ but at the back of my mind was the thought: Just read a newspaper and then rub your fingers all over the clean coin and you're good to go.
Just amusin' myself.
