I am using Canada Post for shipping but it looks like UPS is trying to get on wagon with power seller discounts. Good timing, one of my US customers returned bike helmet to exchange for different size, I warned him to clearly mark shipment return for exchange, well he didn't. Two weeks later I received invoice from UPS for $65 total, taxes, fees and $42 brokerage fee, for $200 value helmet. Now I knew about those charges from UPS are coming and one of the reason I was avoiding UPS. The same day I received from UPS offer for discounts from 25% and more. Do I really want to deal with them? What happens if I get more of those returns, exchanges, I never had that problem with Canada Post.

Personally, I am having great luck lately since CP upgraded tracking and shipping times to the US, especially for the larger items. It's a bit more expensive than it used to be, but most of my customers seem to understand that shipping four foot long boxes, etc to another country is not cheap, and they don't mind paying it. And since the changes, some of the smaller stuff is cheaper now to ship Expedited than Small Packet Air, so with the better shipping times, and good tracking for Expedited USA, etc, that is another bonus.
I tried UPS quite a while ago, but to get the discounts I was targeting, my volume wasn't quite high enough, so it was more expensive than I wanted to pay. I enjoy selling higher value items in lesser amounts than the small stuff in high volume, so CP has worked out fine for me. I do throw in a mix of small stuff in my stores to boost the DSR's and volume, but I far prefer the big stuff, and CP has been great for that.
Plus I have a great relationship with my CP Office, who gives me better discounts than most, and they are right up the street from me. So shipping daily is a cinch.
So it's CP/USPS for me.
Cheers,
AXE

THAT'S HOW UPS MADE THEIR "REAL" MONEY!
Why do you think they open up a big distribution center in Toronto?
One time I had the shipper mark "receiver will clear own custom" clearly on the package but UPS clear them for me anyway and sent me a bill for $75. When i called they promised they'll send me paper work to fix it, but instead send me collection letter 😞 and still had collection agents harassing me for over 1.5 year with phone calls night and day!
On top of the privilege to clear my package they had add on fees like admin. fee., cod fee, recycle fee, blah blah blah fee... (seem to be a very common practice these days, anyone remember Eco fee?)
There are so many extremely greedy EVIL corporations out there these days who'll drum up every chance to grind you out of every hard earned pennies you have (think UPS, Rogers, Bell, City Hall....) 😞
