Unpaid Items On The Rise

Anyone noticing that there are more unpaid items than ever before?
I am getting an average of 3 a week now (mostly on items in the 250-700 dollar range). Tons more zero feedback bidders as well.

Although UPI's are not a huge issue, they are an inconvenience none-the-less. I just follow the steps of waiting 7 days, then opening a dispute for UPI, then wait the 8 days and close the case to get my FV fees back and give the bogus buyer an UPI strike. In my view, though, 15 days is far too long to have to wait to be able to close a case.
eBay should tighten the reigns on these deadbeat buyers, as there is not enough detterent in the system to make them think twice.

Anybody else finding this issue on the rise?

Yes, I'm noticing an increase in UPI.

May 6%
June 8%
July 12.7%

Aug. will probably be as high.

Mine are small dollar amounts ($20-$30) . Probably half are zero feedbacks.

Oh well...

Yup! I just opened 7 disputes for a newbie who went on a buying spree and 1 for another newbie...both with 0 feedback.

Agreed. I would like to require immediate payment but it is a pain in the butt when combining shipping....that is, when they actually pay for all items with one payment. Since the advent of free shipping even the seasoned buyers pay with multiple payments.

I have opened two more unpaid item cases this morning for deadbeat buyers who have not responded to emails and have not paid within 7 days. One is a zero feedback bidder and the other has a feedback score of 1, and both items value are around the 500 dollar mark. This is getting to be routine now. But with the system that is in place, at least I get all of my fees back.

On a positive note, I just had the busiest weekend of the year in sales, so that is a real bonus, anyways!

I have had 1 case in the past few months and the guy paid after I sent the notice.

Generally, I don't get a lot of NPB's, likely because they don't want to wind up on my blocked list.

BTW, ebay is supposed to be introducing a new PUI process very soon, maybe October. Check the announcements board, the "message to sellers" one. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I think it may have a bit to do with the dollar amount and inexperienced buyers. It seems that it is the more expensive stuff bought by the zero fb bidders that have been the issue, at least with my stuff. Maybe sellers who deal in 5 dollar to 100 dollar stuff do not have the same problem, as there is not so much dollar value at stake. Who knows?!

Hey Surplus, thats some pretty interesting fb you got from that buyer on Sept 14th!!!! - That dude shoots from the hip!!!!!!!! LOL :^O

Yeah, I posted a thread about it on CTS.

He just bought again, paid right away and left more of the same FB.

I'm wondering if anybody's going to report it. As for me, I don't care one way or the other. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Gotcha!!!!!
Thats hilarious- I didnt even see his feedback from Sept. 13th- Sounds like a disgruntled seller to me!!

Your quote says it all though-

"It is our similarities that make us all human - it is our differences that make us all interesting"

'cause we all similar in that we all agree that eBays buyer slanted feedback system is BS- but few have the balls to say it out loud and actually voice their opinion! ]:)

Well, I've seen wackier stuff than that on .com.

There are a couple over in the UK that just write the most outrageously funny feedbacks I've ever seen. Totally irrelevant to the transaction but they're hilarious.

They get noted by people on .com from time to time. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, one of the other posters on CTS noted that he's bought 100 items this weekend - this is a good customer ( pays fast, no problems) -------------------------------------------------------------------

Another update- Two more UPI's closed this morning (got the FVF's back, anyway) and other one opened.
Looks like two or three a week now, and it will likely get worse as we move into the X-mas season.

I closed 2 disputes the other day. Both buyers had 0 feedback. One of them purchased 7 items.

I have had an increase in UPI's since they started the no neg FB for buyers. Previous to that change I had a few but not many.

I opened 7 UPI's on Monday. One buyer bought 5 items. So far, one has paid. 😞

I have also noticed an increase recently in the number of buyers who contact me wanting to know if I will give them a better deal on one or more items. I don't use the Best Offer option.

I went to close an Unpaid Item dispute this morning, and found that it looks like eBay is changing the UPI process to 4 days instead of 8, which will mean much faster resolutions.

That's right, I was able to close one this morning after only 4 days 😛
Well, that's a plus!
UPIs for newbies is one thing but UPIs for avid SELLERS is another story - I had one Buyer, he bought 4 items, I offered combined shipping which saved him quite some money but he never paid, never even bothered to respond or anything and he is a SELLER himself with hundreds of Feedback - That's way worse than a newbie who doesn't know what he's doing.
That's life, I guess.

The nice part about the new UPI process is that a buyer that doesn't pay cannot leave a neg or neutral, even if they reply in the dispute.

That will save a lot of sellers from getting nailed unfairly.

That is true if the seller is using the automatic unpaid item assistant, otherwise the feedback issue is the same as it always was.

Is Feedback blocked for unpaid items that go through the manual process as well?
No, Feedback is only automatically blocked if a transaction is being handled in the automated process. However, all the current reasons for Feedback removal will still apply. (For example, if the buyer doesn't pay and refuses to communicate or participate in the unpaid item process, then negative Feedback can be removed.

Can the buyer of the unpaid item leave me Feedback if I decide to automate the process?
Once you opt into the automated process and the process starts, the buyer is automatically blocked from leaving Feedback for that item. However, buyers may still be able to leave Feedback under these conditions:

* Before Unpaid Item Assistant opens the case
* If the buyer pays after the case is opened
* If the buyer successfully appeals after the case is closed
* After the case closes if no unpaid item has been recorded on the buyer's account
