What is the deal with the prices being asked for 1997-98 Esso autograph cards? Am I out of the loop

Used to be these cards sold for $20.00 to $100.00 tops. Now I see $1200.00 being asked. Are these the prices these cards are worth?

That price is just for autographed cards.

The regular ones are selling on ebay for about $30.00 for the complete set

of 60 cards.
