What type of feedback do I leave when I received a used/faulty item?

Hello Ebayers.

I don't know what feedback to leave and I would like some advice.

I received an item 'not as described'. It was listed as 'new and factory sealed' when in fact it was not sealed, had been used, some of the product was missing and the rest was so dried up it was of no use.

I contacted the seller and they refunded my money. They wanted the item returned but that would have cost me more than what I paid. When I said that I would have to leave 'less than 100% feedback' if I was out of pocket for the return shipping, they told me to keep the item.

Ok, so I'm happy I got a refund, and happy I don't have to send the item back (it went in the garbage instead), but what do I leave for feedback?

This seller is claiming they made a mistake in their listing (saying it was factory sealed) but they are still claiming the item is new.

How can it be new if it's been opened and some of the product is missing?

Anyway, I want to leave fair feedback.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the help.

If you got all your money back, well, you're really no worse for wear, are you.  So the whole experience wasn't really all that bad, was it.

You don't say where you bought it, - if it was a small seller or a larger place where there may be many people processing an order.  The problem may indeed not be the seller's fault.

What you do about feedback will depend very much on the kind of person you are.  If the seller was uncooperative and stole your money, that would not be very positive, would it.  As it stands, you got your money.  Wasted your time, sure, but mistakes happen.

As opinions go, in my view you would do yourself (and the seller) a kindness by trying to find some good in the transaction and leave the seller a green.  You don't need to tell the whole story, just "Good customer service" or some such thing.  Did the seller ship quickly?  Oooh, 5 stars!  Affordably?  Another 5 stars!  Communication?  Sounds like 5 stars to me.  ... hmmm, but  Item as described?, ...  Well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. 😉

I believe it would be petty and unfair to leave the seller grey or red.  You got all your money and did not have to return the product.  Some sellers really deserve negs, -  I just don't think this one does.

If a transaction leaves you so disgusted you can't bring yourself to leave green, but you don't want to do a seller any harm, - in that case don't leave any.  That way your conscience is clear, -- you couldn't do her any good but you didn't do her any harm either.

In this case, however, the whole thing sounds very positive and green to me.  I see no need to mention the product problem, as I am sure the seller will attend to it in future.  I'd say just conclude it pleasantly for all, move on, and make a note to never buy from that seller again. 🙂
