When the buyer receives the email from Canadapost/Paypal shipping that the item has been shipped, can they view the amount paid for shipping

When printing a Paypal/Canadapost shipping label from home and the buyer receives the notification email, can they view the amount of the shipping charge. Also, if they do see the amount would it be before or after the discount for printing the labels from home. I am hoping they can view the amounts as Canadapost rates are so high and I would like them to know that I do not overcharge.

Many thanks for the replies, it really is too bad that it does not show since Canadian sellers would not be penalized as much on our shipping charges.

Re: When the buyer receives the email from Canadapost/Paypal shipping that the item has been shipped, can they view the amount paid for shipping

Hello 'oldspike',

To my knowledge there is as yet no way to enable Canadian sellers to have the postage cost appear on that label.  I have had parcels come from the US which displayed it, so perhaps it is only available to US sellers.

UK sellers have the same problem with the high rates from Royal Mail.  Many of these sellers explain about it in the listing, or when we ask for shipping fees to Canada.  Others state in the listing what the packed weight of the item is, and some even suggest visiting the Royal Mail site for rates.  Many sellers say something like "I do not overcharge for shipping", and some will state very clearly that they charge, say, £1, or $2.50 for packaging and handling, and so on.

Shipping costs are a part of doing business by mail.  Canada Post rates are comparatively high, yet even US sellers get low DSRs on shipping fees.  The problem is more in the way the system is set up than the actual postage costs.  By not displaying the cost on the shipping label, buyers (including sellers who buy!) assume the real mailing cost was much lower and the seller is 'hiding' that fact.  Few people will comfortably accept any form of deception.

Also the DSR question is worded badly.  Most people are not great readers and may not fully understand the question, "How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?"  What is meant by that is whether or not the seller was reasonable in conforming with shipping rates and a modest (permissible) handling fee.  Only when a low score is selected does a list of choices appear, such as "Did the seller: Charge more than the actual costs for mailing, packaging and handling?"

The way the question reads at present, it sounds like the buyer is being asked if he thinks shipping rates are too high.  They are, aren't they.  Way too high.  But the question sounds as much like an opinion survey.  Ebay set it up that way, I can only assume ebay is aware of that.
