When was the first year that Canadian Silver Dollar Proof Coins issued

That is my question.  Can someone tell me the year that the RCM issued it's first Proof Silver Dollar Coin, for collectors??

According to the Wikipedia article on the Canadian silver dollar - 1981 was the first year when the coin was available as Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated versions.
