Who sets the price for the items you want to sell?

This is my first experience with selling online.  I would like to know who sets the selling price for the items - ebay or the seller?  I noticed on sites like Amazon and Indigo that books that are being sold used actually cost more than the new ones.  It makes no sense to me.

The asking price and the shipping cost are set by the seller, based on what she thinks the market will bear.

Some sellers set opening bids in an auction very low, in the (usually wrong) hope that there will be multiple bids.

Set your opening price at what you can comfortably sell the item for.

Shipping is even more fraught. Buyers like low or free shipping. This may mean that you have to include part of the shipping cost in the asking price.

Learn how to use Calculated Shipping and always use metric measurements.

The items you see listed on eBay and Amazon are the ones that have not sold. Therefore, the overpriced titles are going to stay listed, while the well-prided and under-priced items will be snapped up.

Used books are usually sold by private sellers. New books are likely from the publisher or from bookstores trying to reduce stock.

BTW, as a bookseller myself, let me give you some advice. Bestsellers don't sell. They are too easy for buyers to find and the competition is fierce.

If you can find a niche, revel in it.
