Well the year is starting out very well, the Canadian dollar ended the week below 85 cents for the first time since February of 2009. Other than that brief dip in 08/09 it's now at the lowest level in about 8 years!
There is some joy in Mudville!
I'm still hearing comments from traders that it's expected to go even lower over the next few months.
To snowbirds and Caribbean vacationers, you have my sympathies.

"eventually the saudis will give in and send the price back up"
Maybe, maybe not.

Those are the types of predictions that are made at tops and bottoms before the turn!

Well, I suppose the moral of the story is: don't invest in oil unless you have good nerves.
There is such a history of boom and bust where oil resources are concerned that I'm surprised that anybody is surprised anymore at wild and unpredictable fluctuations. You have a point about electric cars, which is sad.
Remember when everybody dumped their land yachts in the 70's for cheap econo-boxes like Gremlins and Chevettes? Now apparently large, muscular pick-up trucks are the biggest sellers in Canada. No wonder demand for oil is still up. Those truck owners must be happy they're not paying $100 per fill-up at the moment at least.
Anyway, sorry, off-topic. As an eBay seller, I'm quite happy to take the extra currency exchange money and run.

As a seller, I like the low Canadian dollar, because I get more dollars in my pocket after conversion fees.
However, as a buyer, I hate it! It costs me more to get the same quantity of items.
And quite honestly, because of that, if I could choose, I would really prefer a higher Canadian dollar.

O Yes - Shades of Yester-year - How low will it go I think is the question I've been asking myself this since I watched the Australian Dollar gain back over the last few years. On a side note the exchange has been the silver lining over a busy holiday season.
