got this notion that not everyone out there ( including me in this small roster) is  using these stupid little pieces of plastic that we call credit cards. this little  poll is to tell ebay reatly how many of us echeck users actually use the paypal echeck method ( which wrks fine btw) not all of us have those damn credit cards guys...

Several years since I used an echeque.

However I don't understand the purpose of your posting.

Do you want echeques eliminated or make them optional for sellers as opposed to the present system where if we accept paypal we have to accept echeques ?

And you left out the dumbest system, paying for purchases from a Paypal balance.

Which is my go-to system. (when they were handing out brains, I was over in the "great eyelashes" queue.)

Buyers who use either e-cheques or balances to pay for purchases are giving up the extended protection of their cc's chargeback policy.

Poll is surging with frequent use of credit?

Reminds me of a saying a friend of mine said one day, and it got me thinking, as it should you.

Too many people,

spending too much money,

trying to impress people,

whose opinion doesn't matter.

Just a thought.

How many times do you actually need that?

Me?  Like Never!

I'm not really sure what the OP is saying either.

I use CC for high priced over seas purchases and I'm pretty sure that's a mistake.

For everything else I use paypal directly because I still have quite a balance in there.  It's one way to get the money out.

The alternative would be to transfer the money to my bank account at a loss, and then buy items with my CC and pay my CC off with the money I just transferred at a loss.

I'm no mathematician, but even I can see that would mean less  left over for me.

It's just another form of insurance (like life insurance - ya really only ever need it once to make it worth while).  🙂

also if you have a creditcard with 2% cash back on electronic purchases at the end of the year it takes some of the bite out of the Christmas bills.

i cant imagine a Canadian who is receiving and spending US$ through paypal would ever do anything but use their balance o avoid the double currency conversion that would cost most of them an extra 5%

ok so you DO have a credit card. stamps,..then your opinion doesn't matter. this poll is for those of us who LACK the stupid little piece of plastic we call credit cards. and can't get one for one reason or another. but have paypal; accounts.. who use echecks because its the only way we CAN afford to pay for things.

most of the CC companies out there have seriously bad issues with people on low income like myself.. (oh you don't make over 20k in a year? we won't give you a credit card then) kind of discrimination that goes on even to this day.

I don't HAVE a credit card and I don't WANT one. and i won't be forced into getting one at all!

Got it? Understand? Понимаешь? Entiendes?  Capito? Intelligitis? verstaan?  Good

You have to look at it from a sellers point of view ....

you buy off me and pay echeck .. i now have to wait 2 weeks to get paid for the item and nobody likes that we all just tolerate it echeck are a pain you keep looking through the 2 week period to see if it cleared and then you get buyers who have no clue how long it sometimes take to clear and then give you a slow shipping rating ...

Small Sellers have 4 or 5 item sometimes only 1 and some people are selling it because they really need the money right away then bam someone pays e-check and the wait is on yet again ....

it is pretty annoying as a seller to have someone pay echeck...small seller or even sellers with big items with stores where sq ft cost money ..

I get how some buyers hate not being able to pay e-check but you can't blame someone for wanting to get paid for an item when it sells and not 2 weeks after the fact ..

I make 80k-100k a year and have want 6k card and 1 stuck at 1k and they will not increase because of a cable box i went to collections for 8 years ago ....

your income and your credit do not really go hand and hand...

Credit cards are for fools....

If you don't have the money, don't buy..

at 20 to 28%....em cards will eat you forever....

Bankers make tons of cash from debit and cc's....

Cash is King.....

"Credit cards are for fools...."

No.  Credit card are a great tool for most people.

"don't buy..at 20 to 28%...."

That is another problem.  The high interest charge only applies if you do not pay your balance in full every month.

Having a credit card is a good thing.

Not managing it properly is not.

Let's not confuse the two.

I still don't understand the purpose of your post.

If sellers accept paypal they have to accept echeques.

So you are asking for something that already exists.

I am not aware of any move to abolish echeques.

Cash is the king, but credit cards are way too convenient, they may not cost a penny to use (properly) and can have all kinds of money-saving perks attached.

Banks LOVE low income people who pay only minimum.

Some paid credit cards offer automatic travel insurance (if trip is paid by that card). Travel insurance for 1 week family vacation in Caribbean will cost $200-400 so that $100/yr credit card has already paid for itself after one trip. The cards with cashback are also good too. I think especially low income people should responsibly use them since every dollar counts.

I'm one of those who chose not to use a credit card - years of experience have taught me that credit makes it far to easy to give in to impulse.  Gave up credit cards about 6 years ago and haven't missed them.

Have never had problems with any sellers re  echeques. Wasn't aware that they are a sore point with some .

Waiting two weeks to get payment is not that unusual - unless you're self employed in a profession which receives immediate payment for services rendered, I would think that the majority of people are paid either weekly, bi weekly or monthly, or they invoice for services- and wait.

Sellers who need money right away - what would make them believe that their items would sell immediately? Given the number of unsold and re -listed items it would seem there are no guarantees.

I honestly cannot understand why PayPal use "eCheck" as writing a cheque when in fact most of us use our debit cards to make purchases at any stores and the funds deducted from my bank immediately.  So why can't PayPal do the same?  I gave them my bank account which is a debit but they had to treat them as "eCheck" which is insane.  The funds are sitting there the whole time but they had to treat it as "wrirting a cheque" which is absurd.  I don't have a chequing book for more than 20 years due to insane charges for getting cheque books and service charge for each cheque I used, only a debit card.

I noticed that by using eCheck, it is now 2 weeks comparing to 5-6 days.  Did PayPal actually increased the lenght of process from 5-6 days to 2 weeks??

Some buyers didn't understand that by using eCheck that we cannot mail our items until it is cleared which upset them.

As for paying from our PayPal balance, I prefer than having to use eCheck all the time making the sellers not happy.  I set a limit of $$ in my PayPal balance for a purpose to make purchases and deduct the rest of $$$ to my bank fo my use at any time.

I didn't realize that by using my PayPal balance I am losing the protection for chargeback, is that true?  It seems that for those who don't have credit cards don't have that options which I felt is unfair.  I don't have credit cards anymore, I simply cut them and not use them due to insane service charges and tooooo many errors that I had to call my credit card company too often which take up alot of my precious time each time, not worth it.  So I called them, I no longer want the credit cards and to close my account.  They have send me letters so often asking me to reconsider and even increased my limits to $50.000.00 and I replied each time: "Thanks, I would like it if I can have it and I don't have to pay back any cent" and they never send me the letters again!!

It was the best way to stop those pesty insane banter!

I'm not voting in your stupid poll.  What do I get if I vote in your stupid poll?  What do you get if I vote in your stupid poll?  I want to here from "prior" re: waking the Beast.  It would make for a great reality, survivor forum.

Personally i use a paypal balance and only an E-cheque if I have to avoid an unpaid item strike.

For instance paypal takes 7-9 business days to transfer money but somtimes an auction is just irresistible or I'll start shopping out of boredom knowing the funds will be in my account in a week. Most of the time it's a fine system but I did have a few issues over the holidays because paypal took 2 weeks to transfer funds, so in those instances I paid by E-cheque.

Also most every seller I deal with has it stated payment within 7 days so my "pre cash" spending sprees are fine. I know their will be some sellers on here complaining about my method and saying payment needs to be immediate but I'll never be buying your items anyway so whatever.
