That being said, it is not the last bid that wins but the highest.
It is best to bid once, bid your highest and bid late.
For example, an item is opening at $10
Mr. A bids $20 on Day One and the item opens to him at $10.
Mr. B bids $13 a few minutes later and the price rises to $14 but still to Mr. A.
Six days later Mr.C bids $15 and the price rises to $15 but again to Mr. A who bid first.
Five seconds before the bidding closes, Mr. D bids $20 and Mr. A once again wins at $20.
