eBay Surveys Sellers on Proposed Feedback Changes: End of DSRs?

eBay surveyed sellers over the weekend about proposed changes to its feedback system, and many users are convinced it's just a formality before eBay rolls out such changes site-wide. The survey covered several main areas regarding its feedback system:

  • eBay Feedback and Seller Standards systems;
  • Shipping Charges Detailed Seller Rating;
  • Two ideas eBay has for changing the feedback system;
  • Buyer feedback.

Re: eBay Surveys Sellers on Proposed Feedback Changes: End of DSRs?

I found a link to the survey and did it. It was quite interesting. FB does not work. Has not really worked in 5-7 years. While most of us have BIN with IPR, researching buye4rs is a red herring. What good does it do after the sale and payment? All businesses have the odd bad customer. I think that sellers on eBay should grow a thicker skin and move on.

There was specific reference to a new grading system for sellers that would spread them out over a wider range with the elimination of 100%. The sellers that are only here as FB junkies will never accept that. Their self worth is tied to their FB score. That is scary on so many levels.

There will have to be exclusions on that as a lot of it is tied to on-time shipping, something no-one outside of the USA haqs any real influence on.

eBay is not really rolling out a lot of changes, suddenly. They continue to roll them out. Everything happening, now, I said back in the spring would happen. That which they rolled out in the spring, a lot was in the fall update in 2012.

They are set to de-emphasize FB, de-emphasize DSR, de-emphasize shipping costs. There was some hint of no FB being treated as a count towards no problems based on their new seller rating algorithm.

FB is completely worthless. I have fallen from 60% to about 30%. Buyers are just getting little tickee marks.

Wait for fall-out from the FB junkies when the new seller ratings hit, unannounced. I'm gonna have beer and snacks ready for that one.

I am allergic to beer!!

A bottle of red wine  and a Deluxe Pizza would be more appropriate.

Deluxe all the way....

Once buyers learn how to misuse a rating system.....  there has to be an adjustment....  but something that buyers do not have to see.

Many buyers do not understand  the true meaning of the four DSR... I can see it in feedback left for sellers....

Similarly evaluating buyers... anonymously... such as... Report a Buyer ...   can be a killer for buyers...  if all sellers do  report bad buyers....

Sellers have to be protected.... Bad sellers as well as bad buyers weeded out.....

Re: eBay Surveys Sellers on Proposed Feedback Changes: End of DSRs?

This is quite interesting, thank you for posting it Pierre!

The new measurement system components they are discussing are interesting, and in some cases worrisome to me.

My customers are all stamp collectors so I put real stamps on the packages. This means there is no online aspect to my shipping process, I have to manually mark all my items as "shipped" after I've mailed them.

I send very very small numbers of packages with tracking, and only in rare cases do I upload it ("new to ebay" customer would be an example where I do).

From what I read, depending on what they decide to track/rate on, I may have trouble being rated as a top seller anymore because while I ship within 2 business days, there won't be anything identifying the delivery or tracking online.....so I'm not sure how they'd know how fast I'm delivering....

It will be interesting to see what happens.....

You're telling me!!

I've never worked for a company unpaid for so long in my life!!

Running across country delivering packages gets tiring though.....I think it's affecting my family life though, you know, being gone 24/7......

Sometimes, the key to a successful relationship is being gone 24/7. Works great for me and the ex.

"acceptance scans and actual delivered time does not sound good for Canadians at all."

I totally agree.

However, we all know eBay Inc in San Jose does not think of Canadians when making policy changes on eBay.com.

Re: eBay Surveys Sellers on Proposed Feedback Changes: End of DSRs?

Now that I use tracked Packet as well as Expedited USA......( I had always used Expedited USA)....

Uploaded tracking is at about 80 %... and has risen about 10 percentage units in the last three months...

It would appear that my US buyers  have somewhat adjusted to the cost of Tracked Packet....

However, my percentage of US buyers has dropped from 40 % to 30 %

Tracked Packet does work... but at a cost......  with less sales to the US

Re: eBay Surveys Sellers on Proposed Feedback Changes: End of DSRs?

i recently lost my top rated seller status because i received 2 dsrs on shipping time where the items arrived before the estimated delivery time. this was over 6 dollars worth of baseball cards. i emailed all the people who left me feedback that day and asked what i could do to make it better. the person who left me the dsrs left me positive feedback and it could not be changed. i dont think ebay realizes that shipping from canada with required tracking is costly. the minimum amount for anything is 16 dollars. i think the people who are considering and coming up with these ideas should actually call the sellers!!! and not pay some companyfive figures to do a survey. im sure ebay realizes that they will lose probably 20 million in sales out of canada if all this happens and 10% of that is2 million lost revenue from final value fee charges. i really think they need to step back from any more changes and look at there numbers. i have to speak to any of these people but no one wants call.

sell an item for 10 dollars and through the global shipping program it can up to 20 dollars to ship. so at this point they should look at numbers since the program started and im sure heads will roll.. and there is always an open invitation for any of these 6 figured salary guys to call me but they never do.

OK, Mr. Elmwood, I'm back to being 'rose-dee' again on this one.  I must respectfully take issue with a couple of these points.  Woman Wink

(a)  I do agree the FB system is almost useless now.  But it did serve a purpose for those of us who use "Best Offer".  I found it helpful to be able to vet an offeror before making a decision to accept, reject or counter-offer.  I'll miss that capability.  You keep forgetting that not all of us sellers are running the same sort of business.

(b)  I don't argue that there aren't "FB junkies" on eBay, but when you're selling at a lower volume, with mixed prices (some quite low, some rather high), it's useful to be able to project your reliability to potential customers.  My FB tells my buyers that they can count on getting good products and excellent service from me, not unlike those "BBB" signs B&M stores put on their windows.  Since I don't have thousands of transactions a year, I can't afford to be unconcerned about my FB.  (You can get out your beer and chips now)

(c)  Well, we Canadians may say so, but I doubt San Jose will think so.

My own prediction is that eBay is weaning us off their "old" way of doing things, step by step, until they can essentially dump everything that used to define eBay.  I don't think these changes have to do with improving the old, but getting us all accustomed to an entirely re-designed, re-conceptualized site.  (IMHO).

All right, Mr. E., you can go back to disagreeing again...Smiley Wink
