how to refund a buyer and get a credit for final value fees

I had a buyer pay for an item & before it shipped out realize that it wouldn't fit so requested a refund.

I want to ensure I get credit for my final value fees on the original purchase.

How do I handle this?

What you do is, after issuing the refund you send your buyer a mutual cancelation request. This enables you to get a final value fee credit. Tell your buyer what you want to do and mention that all they have to do is agree to the request when they receive it. Here is how to offer the mutual cancelation request.
