Ebay used to have their help section titled Help which made it obvious. Now help is called Customer Support. That is where you would go to find out how ebay works before actually committing yourself to buying an item which is what you have done.
The seller is the only one who can cancel a bid or a transaction. If the seller doesn't cancel and you do not pay, you will get an unpaid item strike.
When you say you cannot contact the seller. Do you mean that you do not know how or that the seller hasn't responded yet? I do not know how much time you are giving the seller to respond. Sometimes people expect instant responses. Not everyone reads or responds to emails the instant they receive them. Maybe the seller will cancel the transaction but hasn't read their email yet.

Commit means buy. If you don't want and won't pay you are at the mercy of the seller who can either cancel or open an unpaid dispute.
2 unpaid strikes and your buying here is over for 12 months.
If you have not set up a PayPal account a payment can still be processed using pay now and selecting do not have a PP account and providing a credit card.

So first you "confusingly" clicked to place your bid then yet again "confusingly" clicked to confirm your bid?
