Canada Post are very tricky when it comes to paying indemnity for loss or damages.
Often they will cover a loss up to a specific amount if one type of service is used but not cover any loss if a different type of service is used, regardless whether the sender paid for insurance coverage or not.
I strongly suggest you call Canada Post at their 800 number (forget about getting the information from a clerk at the local postal outlet unless you are a gambler) and be very specific in your questions
- type of merchandise
- value of merchandise
- type of service
- destination
Good Luck.

On the other hand, you may want to forget about Canada Post for insurance and use a third party insurer, preferably on a blanket policy, if you ship a lot of valuable stuff.

Shipsurance will cover collectable currency up to $1,000.00 from Canada to the US.
Please make sure it is collectable and not just sending "cash" from Canada to the US or it will not be covered.
Canada Post will not insure currency period.

If you have an extensive collection, or if you are a coin dealer , either online or show dealer or have a B&M, you should consider Hugh Wood International.
They are a British based company, with offices in Toronto, who are among other qualifications, the insurer for the American Philatelic Society.
As APS insurer they cover the circuit books. This is a service that circulates books of stamps, by mail, from one collector to another. If a collector finds something he wants, he removes it and sends payment to the APS. Think about the potential for fraud, and APS insures this. (It helps that philatelists are amazingly honest.)
We have also used them for our family business for about 10 years.
The company does not insure single packages. They want annual contracts.

Gabriel : you state in your listings that you are not responsible for delivery unless the buyer pays extra for insurance.
This is against ebay ruleds and could get you suspended.
Do you charge GST/HST to buyers in Canada? If so , this must be listed in your auction.
