Good day all,

Considering opening a basic store but did some numbers.

Case study: A product selling for $250.00 total number of 12 units over a 30 day period.

listing fee: $15.00 30 day
5.25% $25.00 $1.31
3.25% $225.00 $7.31
T $250.00 $$8.63 ea.
total $118.50 /12

store fee: $0.10 30 day
10.00% $25.00 $2.50
7.00% $75.00 $5.25
5.00% $150.00 $7.50
T $250.00 $15.25 ea.

total $183.10 /12

Unless my math is out to lunch, can someone illuminate me on the store advantages.

listing fees vs. store fees

Obviously, the answer depends on what you are selling;

- if you have a product that sells 12 units a month at $250 without relists then you don't need to stock a store.
- If there is very little variety to your product line then you probably don't need a store.
- If you don't need/want to sell accessories or add-ons to your product line, then you don't need a store.

Nothing to do with mathematics.

listing fees vs. store fees

I have 100s of small 'cheap' items -- a store is much more economical considering eBay auctions have a minimum charge of $.55 or so, and a good deal of my items sell for $0.99.

I lose money on auctions for 70% or so of them. A store has much less exposure but is economical.

I agree 100%. It depends on what you are selling. The lower cost items I lose money on listing as an auction. I sell many lower priced items and the only reason I actually have auctions is for advertising. I did an experiment and did not run auctions for a month and sells went down huge! So, now even though many auctions I do lose money I consider this my advertising costs.
It also depends how often you roll your inventory with re-list fees etc.
Your sales if the average price is $250.00 is probably better auction.

Depends what you sell and also on your strategy...

62% of my sales this summer are credited to the store...but I use listings primarily to draw traffic to the store

One thing to note is I carry a product line up though, and not one of a kind items

Oh, and also, as I've found out for some of my items, if not many other people have your items, chances are your show items will show up in regular item searches
