looking for dog treats for my old girl she just had a tumor removed and is not doing so hot

So I was looking through the treats and I found this

They look pretty yummy but with homemade treats how do you know when they were made and are they still good ...

In this case just look at the picture... Maybe just maybe it is time to make a fresh batch LOL

I guess I should add I know it's just a picture and not the time they were made but at first glance I wonder if people see what I saw

You think dog treats made in 2006 might be a little stale? lol

Not to mention how sick they would make her. Those treats have eggs, milk and margarine in them...I'm pretty sure that would be past their expiration date.

Actually, homemade dogs treats are pretty easy to make....well according to my sis in law. I haven't actually tried to do it yet but my dog loves the ones that she makes.

I hope your girl is feeling better soon. What kind of dog?

Chicken gizzards and hearts are very cheap and are good for your dog. She's a carnivore after all and can't easily digest vegetable proteins.

You don't need to cook them. But if you do, they actually make a pretty good stew for serving over noodles or mashed potato to humans.

If you (or someone in your household) has time, I'm sure there are online recipes for dog treats.  I used to make them years ago, and recall that chicken livers, ground beef, cooked rice and pea flour were in them, but I've forgotten the details.

Especially with an older dog you have to be careful not to alter her diet too much by adding too many extras, particularly vegetable or grain ingredients, and particularly if she's just had surgery.  And those treats can add up -- just give her little bits now and then.

Vets often carry whole food dog treats (both the crunchy type and the soft type).  Why not ask what they'd recommend?

Best of luck with your old girl.  As a long-time dog lover and "mommy" of a number of rescue dogs in my life, I know we want the best for them!  (Couldn't help putting up a picture of my boy). Smiley Happy
