I logged onto the Ebay.com site today and there was a big canadian flag with the words "avoid border fees" under it. It takes you to a link that is designed for Canadians and encourages them to buy locally within Canada.

This is fine and Dandy but why can't ebay just put this on the ebay.ca site? With the increased cost of shipping, the levelling off of the U.S. Canadian dollar, its difficult enough to compete with U.S. sellers. The last thing I want is U.S. sellers to see this "avoid border fees" and get the notion that there are going to be border fees on the items I sell.
Creating a global market part of what has made Ebay what it is today. Why are they trying to segregate countries and force Ebay.CA down our throats?

I'm concerned that this "avoid border fees" is going to make at least SOME u.s. sellers think twice about ordering from Canada.

wasn't there when I checked just now. I think the ebay.com home page changes and cookies may only allow a certain page to show a certain amount of times per viewer. Or its rotational?

It doesn't always show up. I am wondering if they know we are Canadians when we go on .com and try to entice us to get back to .ca to shop.

In other words, I am not certain that USA buyers see this info. I think it's only directed at us canadians.

I'm pretty sure it's directed at Canadians (the same way that if you log on to google.com they re-direct you to google.ca - you have no choice!)

It seems every time i see the main page of ebay.com now, it has some sort of Canadian based ad, the avoid border fees, buy in Cdn $, etc. What is likely funny, is that i assumed that it was an Ad campaign by ebay.ca, and that they were paying to advertise on the .com site, to get our $$!

Hello www-labels4less-com

I wouldn't be too worry, that kind of smart banners react to the information your server and/or your account setup provides. If it "sees/ knows" that you are coming from Canada it presents you with offers targeted to Canadians (like using the .ca site) It won't show to USA based customers.

Amazon has been using that technology since they opened the Canadian website, in order to re-direct the people that visits the US site into the canadian one (give them an option, not a straight re-direct)
