"Dumbest thing ever said" Rick Mercer Mocks Telus

This is hilarious - Mercer really outdoes himself ripping Telus for telling CRTC that Canadians don't want their cell phone bills capped.

I don't know what's worse, this or paying 1.47 at the pump yesterday while Alberta is going broke due to the oil companies collusion to lowball the Alberta oil price...

$1.47 eh?  I think you are getting ripped off, Art.

Paid $1.28 in Ontario yesterday, but doesn't Quebec sock it to you to pay for the 1976 Olympic Stadium or something?  At least your Quebec roads and overpasses are superbly maintained.

This is why we needed Petro-Canada to be a force for Canadian interests in the marketplace.

Don't know how we're going to fix the cell phone problem.

Differences in the gas price from province to province have different reasons.

But for the oil companies to shaft Alberta so flagrantly and shamelessly to me is total hardball.

They deserve to be Chavezed.

In the past few years the Alberta government has budgeted poorly and spent too much. If there had been a higher amount of oil royalties coming in, they would have just spent  more. They may be blaming the price of oil for their income shortages but imo they are just shifting the blame.

I'm not an expert in oil market prices but part of the problem is that our biggest customer is the U.S. and I doubt that things will change until we are able to expand that market. More competition..higher prices.

Driving in London on Tuesday, saw a gas bar with a price of 226.5 on the board.

Obviously a mistake but I didn't even laugh or cringe, just shook my head and thought "yup, someday"

Gas prices here in London have been really confusing lately.

It used to be that prices changed once a day - or less frequently.

In the past two weeks, we have been seeing prices change three and four times a day.

The other day I filled up at $1.25 a litre at the Esso station on Highbury and Hamilton. Couple hours later I saw the Esso near White Oaks mall had the price of $1.36 a litre up.

Ontario legislation applies a gasoline tax of 14.7 cents per litre gasoline. Qualified First Nations individuals are exempt from paying this tax if they buy gasoline for personal use from an authorized service station located on a reserve.

Who qualifies for the exemption?

First Nations individuals registered under the Indian Act as "Status Indians" are entitled to purchase gasoline for their personal use exempt of tax, when purchasing from a service station located on a reserve. In order to sell gasoline to those exempted without payment of the 14.7 cents per litre gasoline tax, reserve retailers must be authorized by the Ministry of Finance.

At any Rez 'anyone' can get gas for 3 to 4 cents less than down the street off the Rez. A status card gets you a Lot more savings as described in post 16.

Re: "Dumbest thing ever said" Rick Mercer Mocks Telus

As mentioned, generally rez gas can be several cents cheaper a litre than nearby non rez retailers.

Why? feel free to ask any on rez gas bar manager.

Some rez gas has exclusive pumps for status natives ONLY :-)with even cheaper gas. How much cheaper? Again feel free to ask the rez gas bar manager.

Natives in quebec remit reciepts to revenu quebec for sales tax on gas re-imbursement. How much you ask? feel free to contact revenu quebec for further details.

Frankly natives should be paying the price per litre of gas as it leaves the refinery. Before the gov't gets its greedy thieving hands on it.

Were working on it.

Cheers
