"FROM CANADA" in search feature

Here is a copy of my letter to Bill Cobb.
PLEASE send your own letter to him. This new feature is ruining our sales. We need great number of letters going to him to have any effect!
Dear Mr Cobb,
Ebay has done a very sad thing to all the Canadian sellers at the busiest time of the year. You have effectivly ruined my Christmas sales in the last few weeks. It is no wonder the sales for Canadians are down.
I sell Charming Tails, a small collectible. I have sold them for years and have many loyal repeat customers. As we all know, every business need new customers to survive. When you go into the search for Charming Tails, a new feature has come up. It tells the prospective purchaser that the item is FROM CANADA.
This has been very disruptive to my business. Many sellers, both Canadian and US do not take the time to look up the 4 digit zip code. I do for every customer. My product arrives faster than most US sellers product as I ship every day on the day I receive payment. Please check my feedback for verification of my fast shipping.
This addition to the page has made many purchasers totally ignore me. My sell through rate has dropped significantly and my Canadian sales...a very minor portion of my sales has increased slightly.
Between your excessively high fees and this new "feature", you are killing my business. On Dec. 7 with approx 1000 auctions in play. I sold 1 item to Toronto and received 2 new bids.
PLEASE ADDRESS the FROM CANADA problem immediately as it has effectively spoiled my Christmas.

When you list your items you can choose which country you want them to show up as shipping from.

I have started to revise all my listings to say

Location:

FAST SHIPPING VIA UPS

Oops, hit the wrong button. LOL

As I was saying, I've revised my listings to read:

Location:
FAST SHIPPING VIA UPS
United States

This way they show up on .com when someone does a search for U.S. listings only. It has helped sales.

I did a search and see your auctions appearing with other US competitors under " Charming Tails". Your Ebay store even appear on the top list. I don't understand why you complaining. The reason I could see your sells going down is because of high competition (over 2200 item all the same and prices the same). You might have to find a way to make your self more visible on Ebay offer cheaper prices,etc.

It seems to be having an effect on my sales as well. I have one bid from Germany, one from the USA, and the rest are from Canada. I usually have twice as many US customers than Canadian customers, and I have nothing else to attribute this to.

Just passing through while looking for posts on holiday mail issues (specifically the 9th & 12th... ughhhhh!)

I too have noticed a decrease in numbers since this feature began, and while many issues could be responsible, I do feel it has had some effect.

Many US buyers, for various reasons, are nervous to buy an item from Canada, and this new addition only increases the chances they won't even look to start with (and that probably applies somewhat to buyers/sellers from other countries also).

I can make a guess as to why it was implemented, but ultimately, I think it will hurt good sellers everywhere, and limit buying overall, not increase it.

Just my 2 cents anyway. 🙂

This is my first post on the Canadian lists. I'm hoping they are more helpful then the US "bash lists" as I call them.
But anyway, I just wanted to say I have noticed a huge drop in my US sales since they added this feature. I have had more Canadian sales, but I attribute that to the higher valued Canadian dollar (and Canadians wanting to buy at home so to speak)

Please change this! It is like a BIG BLEMISH on the listing. US buyer won't even click on auctions that have CANADA screaming out on them. I have noticed that my sales have dropped right threw the floor since this new feature started. I only have my repeat buyers from years ago bidding on my art, no new buyers. Worse than that, there are a whole bunch of US art sellers imitating my paintings and selling them to other US buyers because US buyers would rather buy from US sellers than Canadian. It is very very frustrating. I also don't like the search feature that allows the buyer to search ONLY US auctions. Please for the good of Canadian sales, please stop this!

I just want to add the BULK of our sales is from the USA not from Canada. Advertising that we are Canadian in the listing just hurts our sales. It is great for the few Canadians, like myself that bid. But as you all know the majority of bidders are from the US. This new addition is damaging our sales.

Change your "location" on your listings to United States. I'm in the process of doing that on all mine. I ship via UPS so customs hold-ups isn't an issue and I'd rather sell mainly to the U.S. anyway. Shipping is actually cheaper.
