shipping insurance on a vehicle purchase

i am looking to purchase a vehicle using ebay motors. nowhere in the listing was the warning that I would have to pay shipping insurance.  this is making me leery of continuing with this process. the vehicle is listed at $5,700 but they want me to pay $2,260 for insurance.  Ebay has given me vague assurances that I will receive the $2,260 back if it arrives unharmed at my address.

Anyone have any experience with this?

It sounds like a SCAM

Motor Vehicle purchases on eBay are non binding.

I would walk away and buy a car in person.

I would never buy a vehicle without examining it first.

You did find the vehicle on eBay, not on another site, right?

EBay does not handle financing for other companies. They have enough trouble with their own company.

Did the seller want the insurance by Paypal or by money order?

Go carefully. This sounds ...... odd.
