I bought an item that was $99.95 US. The Seller charged me $16.00 for UPS standard shipping to Canada.

The package arrived and here is a Brokerage C.O.D. due to UPS for $54.17. What a rip! The seller said nothing about additional fees due IN ADDITION to the $16.00 I paid him for the shipping. By looking under Help in eBay, I see there is nothing I can do about it.
The money's the same, whether you earn it or scam it.

Not sure who you are dealing with but just make sure its not a scam. If they are that much cheaper than in the stores it very well could be.

50% UPS Brokerage fee????

How big/ heavy/ expensive of a television are you trying to purcahse that you can not possibly find one by walking into your local electronics shop?

If you "save" $200 on the purchase price of it - calculating that you are going to pay shipping, taxes, customs, brokerage, possibly duty - and calculating that if there is something WRONG with it, you are going to pay for ONLINE TRACKING to return it - what in the end are you REALLY saving?

Look in the classified ads for your area and you will be surprised that you can usually find someone that needs to move or what ever and is getting rid of one cheap. At least this way you know what your getting and what your paying up front. Just a suggestion, but thats what I would do, its worth a look. Check out Kijiji for your area.

Items purchased from TradePort are subject to one or more of the following warranty options: Original Manufacturer Warranty, and TradePort's 30-day limited warranty against defects.

* Manufacturer Warranty information is typically not provided to us. Items that are described as having packaging in "perfect" condition will include whatever warranty cards were included with the original package. Otherwise, please refer to the manufacturer for questions regarding warranties
* TradePort's 30-day limited warranty is a defective exchange policy that provides for either repair or replacement (at our sole discretion) of merchandise that has been confirmed as defective by either the manufacturer or TradePort

-----------------------------------------------------

My interpretion is that you may or may not get a mnufacturers warranty

And even if you do, I doubt it's in effect in Canada

And even if it is - read this

Best Buy has a nice Sony 32" for $799.99 (which would be around the neighbourhood of what you'd end up paying for the one online) - also a 32" Insignia for $549.99

Costco has a Samsung for $799.99 - and more in-store I'm sure as well.

If you want new, still suggest to visit a local store - Costco, Future Shop, Best Buy, The Brick, etc.

An educated consumer can pick up a variety of bargains on eBay BUT in my opinion, stay far away from Motor Vehicles, Televisions, DVD Players, Computers & related merchandise. Common sense should tell you that you are taking a big risk buying any of these items sight unseen or tested. Even though you may be paying more to buy directly from an authorized dealer, it is safety valve that's worth the extra cost in the long run.

Canuckchat has given you some good leads. Also, try haggling about the price. It often works! Photobucket

50% UPS Brokerage fee????

hello,
Today i got my item that i bought from ebay at 40+16 shipping total 56 dollard, good deal, until i got to pay 38,56 for UPS Brokerage fee. Non sense, i never would have bought this item if a new the exact price that ups charges.
If the seller does not get more money, why in the hell would he whant to trouble the buyer with this. If you ask me it's not very bright, all he end's up doing is to loose customers.

Most sellers don't have a clue that we have such a low import level or that UPS and other couriers charge so much to broker our items across. The courier company doesn't inform them of the charges the importer will face.

As the importer, it is the buyer's responsibility to look into any charges they will face beforehand. It's not the seller's responsibility to know the import rules for every country they ship to.

As long as people keep asking the same question, even though it's been asked many times before (and could easily be found if a search of the boards was done), I'll answer with the same information.

I just bought some car speakers, and did not know about this fee. i am getting a fee of 35.91. the speakers cost me just under 40 dollars. the shipping was 38.00

so does this mean i have to pay a brokerage fee, which is around 50% of the fee, and it INCLUDES the shipping fee!!!?!?

Personally, I am never using UPS again, but I am just going to shell out the payment this time. but i don't know if if I will when its costing me the same amount as the shipping to get here! $60 shipping for a $40 dollar item?

.. this is why there is a "tacked" thread at the top that cautions you to read it before purchasing from the USA ... to inform buyers.... yes you have to pay a brokerage fee .. plus your regular taxes you'd pay if you were buying it at your local store in Canada (5% GST plus PST, 8% in ontario, not sure about other provinces) ...

If Ebay won't step in, the only working solution is to leave negative feedback, here we are almost 2 years later, same complaints no solutions!

UPS and Pay Pal and EBay do have a business relationship, they could have fixed the problem and have not.

If enough buyers get negative feedback, it will not take a rocket scientist to guess the problem will come to an end. Let’s do something that works!

And no need for tears for sellers, they are in business, they better learn their market, it should not be the victims job to get burned first before they learn to not buy from sellers who use UPS.

Please do not insult the intelligence of sellers, by saying it’s not their fault, we Canadians have for too long let them reap the profits of this blatant American theft.

OMG, what are you thinking? Of COURSE it's the buyer's responsibility to know the consequences of any delivery system they will be paying for and using. Why on earth would I ever leave a negative feedback for a seller because *I* didn't do my homework about every aspect of the transaction???

UPS Rippoff Brokerage Fee
Today I received a UPS shipment from Wisconsin. An item which cost us$ 2.31 plus UPS US$19.71 for a total of 22.02. The Canadian UPS driver then wanted another can$23.10 for this shipment. What an outrageous and unjustified usury and ripp-off !! How do these bureaucrats calculate these fees? How do they justify their jobs? Is this Free Trade?
I wonder how this company is getting away with this greedy practise for such a long time and why the courier users are not switching to more reasonable delivery services like the Mail and Post. I guess once UPS burned = never UPS again.
