I bought an item that the seller provided what seems to be a fake tracking number... It's shipped with canada post lettermail and the tracking number the seller provided looks like this: #Lettermailxxxxxxx ( X = random numbers ). Number is invalid on canada post and i knew the item was obviously not tracked anyway it's a 15$ item with free economy shipping
Is it a scam incoming!? I don't understand why a seller would provide a random fake and invalid tracking number...
Maybe it's just to fool and scaring buyers to scam him actually?
Just wondering why he did that or if i'm missing something, it's weird

Lettermail can't be tracked. That service is not available,
It can be Registered, which does provide tracking but is expensive and only good domestically.
It might be a little headgame.
Tracking is of no value to buyers . It is a Seller Protection against unwarranted Not Received disputes.
Yes, some buyers do like to have it. Especially our American cousins. Gives them the warm pink fuzzies.
So.
A fake tracking number is useless as Seller Protection, but might discourage a buyer from jumping the gun on slow deliveries. In high fraud categories (like sportcards/ sorry) it may prevent a scammer from opening a false dispute.

I got what appeared to be a fake tracking number from Loot Crate (not an eBay purchase). For about two weeks after payment an unusable number from a company called Richardson(?) was showing on the tracking page.
Then it switched to USPS and now to Canada Post.
I had to use PP to get refunds on my last two crates from them, so maybe the company wised up.

I received the item actually. Not sure why he provided a fake random tracking number but well. I guess it's to scare buyers to claim INR. Maybe he try to fool the low feedbacks profils

As per the other posts, letter mail is not trackable. The seller was just confirming for you both you and eBay that your item had been shipped with the method and most likely the date shipped.

I got 3 refunds lately. I think sellers are using our money during shipping processing time . And probably never have an item that provided.

You bought three item.
None were delivered.
You opened a Dispute for each.
You were refunded.
Good. That's how the system is supposed to work.
And you may be right about the money being used, although in these days of 1.5% "high interest" accounts, it's a lot of work for not much money.
It's also possible that the sellers were selling vapourware and make their money from buyers who are less intelligent than you and just leave feedback which has no effect on the seller at all.

If he wanted to confirm he shipped it he just needed to click ''mark as shipped'', he's a 15000 feedbacks guy he know it. Instead he literally provided a random fake sequence of numbers as tracking number
Lettermail can't be tracked
letter mail is not trackable
I'm always surpised when i see that. Registered mail is actually lettermail with tracking, so lettermail is trackable
I was wrong by the way i did not received it. I purchased items from 2 different sellers that day, the one i received was not the one from that seller
