BOUGHT AN EXPENSIVE ITEM ON EBAY AND PAID FULL GST THRU THE EBAY INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. WHEN THE ITEM FINALLY ARRIVED,THE MAILMAN SAID I OWED THAT SAME AMOUNT IN TAXES WHICH I ALREADY PAID BEFORE IT WAS SHIPPED.SO NOW I HAVE TO PAY IT AGAIN ?
If this happened to me, I'd pay the GST and other charges owing again and then go through Canada Border Services' dispute process on the form that will be attached to the package when I receive it. I'd print out a hard copy of the invoice I received from eBay that has the GST charges stated on it as evidence that I'd already paid GST on the item and there was no reason for me to be charged upon receipt.
I don’t think credit card issuers get involved in tax charge disputes. You’d likely be told that you need to work it out with eBay or Canada Border Services.
